Brandon O'Leary was an industrialist, owner of the BattleMech manufacturing company Mountain Wolf BattleMechs.[3]

History[edit]

Brandon was the great-grandson of the last "real" CEO of Mountain Wolf Battlemechs, and only son of Michael O'Leary and an unnamed mother, which mother died sometime prior to 2990, leaving Michael to raise his young son alone.

On 16 August 2990, father and son were on Hesperus II with the DropShip Ceridwen to seal a deal.[1] That day, Michael was so busy making calls that he barely talked to his young son, who asked to return home, but his father told him that the DropShip was their home. After the Ceridwen took off, Brandon began playing with 'Mech toys. When Michael found him doing so, he vented his frustrations on him, laughing viciously about his fantasies, making the child cry.[1]

On 4 June 2997, Michael and his people were on Alpheratz IV, capital of the Outworlds Alliance, demonstrating the Night Hawk's capabilities. His plan was to impress the Alliance's president, Ronaine Avellar. The 'Mech was piloted by Brandon, but Michael was unable to impress the president, or obtain her financial aid to reopen Alpheratz's old Mountain Wolf factory. An enraged Brandon, hearing his father's blatant mistakes, fought in the 'Mech like a man possessed. Despite his good showing, his father, after the demostration, vented his frustrations on him after the test, blaming his son for the failure. Brandon responded defiantly, telling him how unrealistic Michael's beliefs were. His father, enraged, hit him, putting an end to the discussion.[1]

On 27 December 2999, Brandon was with his father was on winter holiday, a party on Vendrell, the O'Learys' former home. Brandon was wearing MechWarrior clothes as part of his father's show. Brandon, embarrassed by his father's mistakes, drank too much, and asked a young woman to dance. Ironically, she talked to him about Michael's bad reputation. She felt embarrassed when he admitted who he was, but Brandon wasn't enraged. Then he discovered that she was Olivia Hart, the woman whose imminent marriage was being celebrated. The groom, enraged by "a beggar" touching his fiancée, knocked him unconscious, before being knocked out in turn by her.[1]

By 8 January 3010, Michael had died without achieving his plans to resurrect Mountain Wolf BattleMechs, leaving Brandon as his successor. Brandon, meanwhile, had managed to recover Snowgarden, the O'Learys' traditional estate, and amassed a fortune. Soon he was in the Ceridwen, traveling to the Outworlds Alliance. Answering the condolence messages he had received about his father's loss, he presented Mountain Wolf's new project, the Merlin, proposed to the now widowed Olivia Hart, and offered a great deal to Ronaine Avellar to reopen Alpheratz's plant. This allowed Brandon, in a few years, to realize all that Michael only dreamed of achieving.[1]

Sometime after beginning the Merlin's production, Brandon decided to make known it, so he gave two for free to a Solaris VII Stable, Oonthrax Stables... But their pilot, Do-Hyun Adeoye, when fought at the arena, was soundly defeated two times. So Brandon personally travelled to Solaris, alongst Cassandra Fox. They arrived the 3 September 3021, finding Adeoye blaming his Tech for his defeats. After announcing his identity, the pilot fell silent. Bran quietly explained why he had been defeated, and announced a plan to won finally. In The Wreckoning, a Solaris free-for-all fight, Fox and Adeoye's Merlins had to defeat alone a horde of small 'Mechs of the cooperative called Green Griffins. Officially, Brandon only bet both Merlins, and a million of C-Bills with them, if the Griffins won, and in exchange, the Griffins would join Mountain Wolf if defeated... But Cassandra knew better: she knew than, in fact, Brandon was making a supreme bet, betting his own's company's full resources, to obtain enough money to buy two JumpShips. And this time, the 21 September, the Oonthrax's team won, not only winning prestige for the Merlin, but also ensuring Mountain Wolf's future, and even recruiting Adeoye to join the company, after he abandoned his gladiator's career.[4]

In April 3055, Brandon was on Vendrell, where he reopened the company's old Night Hawk factory, resuming the 'Mech's production.[5]
