Description[edit]

Achernar BattleMechs' successful Dig King and Dig Lord MiningMechs inspired an unusual wave of copies, helped along by widespread access to the Dig King's specs. The Burrower is among those copies. A cheap low-tech copy of the Dig Lord, the Burrower came to be particularly prominent.[2]

As with many IndustrialMechs, combat-modified variants of the Burrower exist. Dig Lord copycats found widespread use in combat, the Burrower no exception.[2]

Weapons and Equipment[edit]

The factory-standard DTM-1M MOD is among the many MiningMech mods using machine guns and shoulder-mounted missiles. Duratron Enterprises's creation bears an MML-9 and two machine guns aided by advanced fire control, while keeping the original rock cutter. Four heat sinks help deal with the heat of the missiles. Heavy industrial armor provides some protection. Stability is enhanced by tracks, remaining from the original design.[2]

Variants[edit]

  • DTM-1
The original Burrower, introduced in 3115,[3] uses a mining drill and two fluid guns instead of the MOD's weaponry. Only one heat sink is included. BV (2.0) = 482.[2][4]

Design Quirks[edit]

The DTM-1M Burrower MOD is subject to the following Design Quirk:[2]

Related 'Mechs[edit]

  • Dig Lord: The 'Mech the Burrower was based on.[2]
  • Dig King: The 'Mech the Burrower's MOD was likely inspired by.[2]
  • Ground Pounder: A similar Dig Lord imitation, with a similar MOD variant. Both MODs are suspected to be based on prior Dig King MODs.[2]

Notes[edit]

The Burrower was originally introduced by WizKids in the MechWarrior: Dark Age Collectable Miniatures Game, where it was one of the designs only known by the generic name MiningMech. The DTM-1M specifically represents the MiningMech MOD from MWDA. The publication of Technical Readout: Irregulars gave it BattleTech stats and its new name.
