The Burton system was home to at least one habitable world, Burton V, and as at 3145 was an independent system in the Periphery close to the borders of the Capellan Confederation and Taurian Concordat.[2][3]

System Description

The Burton system is located near the Flaum and Paf systems[4] and consists of a class F2 primary orbited by at least five planets. During the thirty-first century a recharge station was in place at the system zenith jump point.[1]

System History

The Burton system was settled by the Taurian Concordat during the Star League era. [4]

Burton V

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Burton V - more commonly referred to simply as Burton - is the fifth planet in the Burton system and has been home to at least one significant manufacturing concern, O-P Computer Electronics.[1]

The planet has the largest space habitat of the Taurian Concordat at the L5 point in the system, called Sparta.[5]

Planetary History

Star League

Due to the presence of the O-P Computer Electronics company on Burton and that company's military contracts, the Star League felt it was necessary to keep a garrison on Burton. In addition, since the Taurian Defense Force often sent units to Burton for training exercises and war games, the SLDF wanted someone on world to observe the Taurian's military drills in case of future conflicts with the TDF.[6]

Succession Wars

By the end of the Third Succession War O-P Computer Electronics was one of the largest electronics manufacturers in the Concordat, and the planetary population of Burton consisted largely of company employees and staff, with a few regional trading houses based on planet. Burton's high tech trade drew a higher than normal rate of pirate raids, so in addition to the Taurian Defense Force garrison assigned to Burton, the local government raised a security force of 2 Battlemech companies as well as a full battalion of conventional forces. The Concordat Jaegers had their Third Battalion in place on Burton at the end of the Third Succession War; the Concordat government was keenly aware of how valuable the planet was, and took extra steps to limit and observe all foreigners on Burton.[1]
