By Temptations and By War, by Loren L. Coleman is the seventh novel in the MechWarrior: Dark Age series. It was first published in December 2003 by Roc Books and was later republished in June 2021 by Catalyst Game Labs as a BattleTech Legends title.
The novel is about the retaking of the planet Liao from the Republic of the Sphere by the Capellan Confederation.

Freedom fighter Evan Kurst has resisted The Republic's "benevolent occupation" of the world of Liao for as long as he can remember. He has fought side by side with agents from the Confederation, and rallied other fighters to the cause. Until now, his efforts have been in vain. - This book physically stands out from the line of MWDA novels because it was printed in a larger format (crown octavo 5 3/8" x 8" / 13.5 x 20cm) than all the other MWDA novels, including subsequent publications, for unknown reasons. According to hearsay,[1] the change from mass market paperback to trade paperback was a one-book experiment the publisher had decided on without consulting anyone else.
