Legate Calvilena Tortorelli was the Planetary Legate of Mirach, for the Republic of the Sphere, from at least 3130 to 3136.

Personal Appearance

As of 3133, Tortorelli was considered a shortish man gone to seed, with a large belly not reflective of what was generally expected of those with extensive military training. He also generally wore a dozen military medals, though they were not all prominent awards.

History

Tortorelli was appointed as Legate of Mirach by Prefect Kal Radick, placing him in charge of one of Mirach's two militia units, the Mirach Home Guard. Some members of the other unit, Governor Sergio Ortega's personal First Cossack Lancers, questioned the appointment, considering Tortorelli ineffective and militarily unsuccessful.

By April 3133, Tortorelli had fallen under the influence of Mirach's rebellious Minister of Information, Elora Rimonova. Elora manipulated him against the governing House Ortega and the Ortega-friendly Mirach Business Association, keeping him off the trail of her crimes while insinuating her enemies were tied to industrialist Jacob Bannson, a figure Tortorelli considered a hated pirate. Tortorelli was not an entirely unwitting partner, already holding a low opinion of Governor Ortega. Together, they persuaded Sergio to place the First Cossack Lancers under Tortorelli's command, merging them into the Home Guard. After one final training exercise, in which planetary heir Dale Ortega was assassinated on Elora's command, the Lancers were scattered throughout the Home Guard, effectively dissolved.

With Ortega's forces seemingly taken care of, on 3 May, Elora and Tortorelli launched a military coup. For a short few days, the Home Guard fought loyal remnants of the scattered Lancers, the Mirach Business Association's militarized IndustrialMechs, and its own defectors. Loyalty to the Governor won out. The coup collapsed by 12 May, the Home Guard's weak loyalty to Tortorelli undermined by Ortega-loyal Lancers scattered throughout and their force met with a strong defense.

After his defeat, Tortorelli was allowed by Ortega to continue as legate on paper, but was placed under the supervision of Ortega loyalist Manfred Leclerc, who served as the planet's de facto military leader afterwards.

In 3135, despite Legate Tortorelli's continued resistance, All World Comm was eventually acquired by Jacob Bannson, though he was still able to frustrate Bannson Universal's hope to establish a trading post on Mirach.

• Tortorelli is noted as Governor rather than Legate in one source, swapped with the individual otherwise named as Governor by other sources. As the Dark Age: Republic Worlds (3130) listing of Republican planetary Governors and Legates is generally relied upon by other canon sources such as Dark Age: 3132-3134 INN, over the one in Dark Age: Republic of the Sphere, its information has similarly been preferred as correct for the purposes of this article.
