Carole Ackerman was a member of ComStar during the Dark Age era, most notably head of Cassie DeBurke Institute for Hyperspatial Studies charged with solving the mystery of Gray Monday.[1]

Carole Ackerman was born to Carl and Estelle Ackerman, technians who met and married while part of Devlin Stone's coalition who bucked the anti-ComStar trend following the Word of Blake Jihad by joining Order as part of the effort to rebuild the damaged Hyperpulse Generator network. Her parents raised Carole in an atmosphere that stimulated her mind and natrual aptitude for technology, resulting her also choosing to join ComStar. By age 24 she was widely recoginized as one of the Order's most talented K-F field specalists, fast-tracked for further advancement.[1]
Carole Ackerman's work on Hyperpulse Generator efficiency modulation earned her particular recognition, making her especially important to Director of Special Projects Malcolm Buhl who was charged with overseeing ComStar's efforts to solve the HPG Blackout and selected her to spearhead this effort. Setting up the Cassie DeBurke Institute for Hyperspatial Studies in Sydney on Terra and given full staffing privileges, one of her first hires was Tucker Harwell, one of her former students and a genius whose understanding of hyperpulse mechanics exceeded even her own. Her belief was well proven when Harwell proved successful in reactivating the HPG on Wyatt. As of 3135 she held the rank of Precentor XXII.[1]
Unfortunately despite Carole Ackerman's best efforts following Tucker's disappearance, Harwell's solution proved abortive as it only worked on Wyatt and her team was forced to start again from scratch. Any progress Ackerman and the Cassie DeBurke Institute for Hyperspatial Studies made was unknown by the enactment of Fortress Republic.[1]
