Casper Owens was a regional Capellan March trade federation president in the mid-3020s.[1]

History[edit]

In 3025, Casper Owens was the leading candidate in a regional Federated Suns trade federation presidential election. He was a staunch international trade hawk running on a platform of pushing heavy tariffs on interstellar imports from the Capellan Confederation. Unbeknownst to Owens, House Liao did not take too kindly to this and dispatched Maskirovka agents to kill him.[1]

The Eighth Syrtis Fusiliers, tasked with guarding candidate Owens, repelled an attack by an unknown force and sent them on the run. Their counterattack on Cammal, however, was disrupted by the presence of additional mercenary forces, who proceeded to then raid the Eighth's regional armory on Monhegan to prevent them from pursuing the aggressors further. The Eighth was forced to fall back to New Syrtis to regroup and resupply, and the Fifth Syrtis Fusiliers were deployed to the region as Owens' new security detail. Subsequently, a garrison belonging to the Fifth on Bethel was attacked by the same mercenaries while Owens was nearby on a campaign stop, heightening concerns for his safety.[1]

In the final days of the election, Casper Owens stayed at a remote facility high in the mountain ranges of Novaya Zemlya. The southern approach to the base was a narrow pass above a river chasm with long sightlines. The mercenaries eventually showed up, engaging the two Fusilier lances guarding the pass, when suddenly a second BattleMech force moved in on the base from the north ridge. Then unexpectedly, realizing they had been set up, the mercenaries offered to help Owens' security detail defeat their deceptive employers, whose strike team included the experimental Liao 'Mechs RVN-1X Raven and CTF-0X Cataphract.[1]

Following the battle, the mercenary unit surrendered and handed over all of the materials and transmissions they had in connection with the man known as Silvan Vaughn to the Ministry of Information, Intelligence, and Operations, of whom the MIIO had no prior information about before his carcass was pulled out of his custom RFL-DNA Rifleman. Due to the impromptu assistance in defending the now-President-elect Owens—who was very grateful—and following a thorough examination by the MIIO, all charges against the mercenaries were dropped.[1]
