::Talvin, thanks for your note.  Upon reflection, some form of Option B seems best to me.  As this has gone over a week here with no comment, it seems safe to conclude that there is no compelling interest for keeping the images appearing here.  I dropped a follow-up note to Cache, just in case there was an obvious pitfall I am missing.  But I have a reasonable way to proceed.  --[[User:Dude RB|Dude RB]] ([[User talk:Dude RB|talk]]) 22:57, 30 May 2022 (EDT)

:::Didn’t see this earlier, hence the late comment. I think the image tagging is from a time when the German edition was treated as the only foreign language edition on Sarna. It blazed the way for other languages and there was no established procedure, that’s why this category is different. Agree with proposal B. Category Tags for German Cover Images

I notice that the German cover images themselves have been tagged with Category:German Editions or Category: German Language Products. I am not sure whether this was intended to create a photo gallery or if someone sometime ago tagged covers as a stand-in for the product pages themselves. (In other words, perhaps this tagging of the covers served a purpose sometime in the past.) In any case, it does not seem to me that the German cover images themselves should be tagged with German editions category tag, particularly in light of the existence of List of German BattleTech novels which serves the role as a central cover gallery. This does not seem to serve a purpose currently and it is inconsistent with the approach for other language documents.

I currently see two possible ways to proceed, both which seem reasonable. Option A would be to remove the Category: German Editions or Category: German Language Products tags from all German cover images. Option B would be to create a new category called "German Product Images" (as a subcategory of Category:Product Images) and use this to replace the Category: German Editions or Category: German Language Products tags on the iamge files.

Thoughts? Any preferences between these two options? Third options? --Dude RB (talk) 15:09, 22 May 2022 (EDT)

I sent this privately to User:Cache, as he is Senior Editor for Images and has a good track record with this sort of thing.--Talvin (talk) 15:54, 22 May 2022 (EDT)
