Chaka Mobuto was the 3028 Solaris Games Grand Champion.[1]
History[edit]
Chaka Mobuto was fighting for a Marik aligned stable when Justin Xiang Allard dissapeared, he was able to draw attention to himself when he developed his own fighting style that made the use of melee attacks as a center instead of a pinpoint accuracy. He fought several hard-hitting matches and finally claimed the 3028 title. But the other Gladiators adopted to his style and he only managed a few title defenses[2], finally loosing to Anya Terrel, winning though both a lot of money for their fight.[3]
He continued to fight in the arenas but never made another serious play for the top. His fighting style was solid and fans liked it, but it seemed he was out of place in interviews and didn't enjoy the obligations of being champion.[2]
When he retired, he became to a lucrative career as a trainer.[2]
He was considered by several as a mere "transitional champion", but thos in the business rated his matches while champion as some of the most entertaining they had seen.[2]

Chaka Mobuto—spelled Chaka Mobutu—is mentioned by name in the fluff text for two "Solaris Games Veteran" cards for the BattleTech Collectible Card Game (CCG), in the MechWarrior and Commander's Edition (otherwise identical):
This implies that Mobuto/Mobutu's fame and career in the Solaris Games was short-lived, and that he was largely forgotten. It should be noted that the CCG cards, although official, are explicitly not canonical sources for BattleTech at this time. The fluff text quoted above must therefore be considered apocryphal. The year he became champion, he fought Natalya "Valravn" Matsuo's in her Griffin during the final that made him Grand Champion.[4] |
BattleMech[edit]
He piloted a Thunderbolt.[2]
