The Chatham system was home to at least one habitable world, Chatham III, and as of 3145 was located in the Kagoshima Prefecture of the Pesht Military District within the Draconis Combine.[2][3]

System Description

Chatham is located near the Kilmarnock and Luthien systems[2][3] and consists of a class G2V primary orbited by at least three planets. During the late thirty-first century a recharge station was in place at the system nadir jump point.[1]

System History

The Chatham system was colonized at some point prior to the end of the Reunification War.[4]

Chatham III, more commonly referred to simply as Chatham, is the third planet in the system and has been home to a number of major manufacturing concerns both on the surface of the world and, in the case of the Stellar Trek plant, in orbit.[1]

Planetary History

Post-Jihad

In the wake of the Jihad the shipyards on and around Chatham came under increasing demand to step up production. The Tomori Trans Industrial plants near Strabo were attempting to double production at this point, although the dramatically increased security around the facility made it impossible for foreign intelligence services to determine if this would involve the production of new DropShip classes beyond the Vengeance and Nekohono'o classes already produced on site.[30] Similarly, the Stellar Trek shipyards in orbit above Chatham were rushing to produce Merchant, Monolith and Invader-class JumpShips as quickly as possible to try and boost Combine shipping levels following the huge damage inflicted on the Combine during the Jihad.[31]

At this time, the Wakazashi Enterprises facilities on Lemure included an airport capable of servicing not just the various aerospace fighters and conventional aircraft produced at the plant itself, but also any other fighter or aircraft in service with the DCMS.[32]

By the late thirty-first century, the centuries of supporting several major manufacturers had exerted a heavy toll on the planet; despite Chatham retaining a beautiful appearance from orbit, the unchecked emissions from the various factories had combined with certain microorganisms native to the planet to taint the atmosphere, leaving Chatham with some of the foulest air to be found anywhere in the Inner Sphere. This was unlikely to change because of the importance placed on the output of the various factories and the massive amounts of natural resources still available to feed those factories.[1]
