Clan Descripition

A fractured Crusader Clan, Clan Fire Mandrill is divided into a number of Kindraa (Kindred Associations) based upon Bloodnames. Unlike the Cloud Cobras, this fracturization has cost the Fire Mandrills much and they are often hard-pressed to deal with outsiders, due to their internal strife.

The Clan takes its name from genetically altered mandrill, called genus mandrillus sphinx. These mandrill, introduced by the Star League-In-Exile to the Pentagon World of Eden, earned the respect of Nicholas Kerensky for their aggressiveness and loyalty to one another, which made them ideal for adoption as a Clan totem animal.[1]

History

Formation

When IlKhan Kerensky choose to form the twenty Clans, he selected former DCMS Officer Raymond Sainze as senior Khan, and chose the much younger Laura Payne as his junior saKhan. Kerensky imposed forty warrior limit to invasion forces to be used in Operation Klondike.

Due to Khan Sainze's samurai traditions he was raised, his pushed his ethics of to excel and individual performance. However, his upbringings did not allow him to be open to make large number of new friends. This sense of competition and lack of cohesion, would created first sign of Fire Mandrill's fractionism between Bloodnamed warriors of Clan's original warrior caste. Those warriors early fractionism into cliques would lead to the Kindred Associates, later known as Kindraa.[2][3]

The Mandrills conducted a series of pre-trials to determine the quantity of supplies and resources they would take and use in the campaign. The Clan's Cluster that would be used in the campaign ended up with BattleMechs.

Operation Klondike

The Fire Mandrills were assigned to assault Pentagon world of Dagda, with Clans Burrock, Goliath Scorpion and Widowmaker. ilKhan Nicholas Kerensky initially put the invasion of the planet on hold due to a helium tank blow out on one of the Invasion Forces' JumpShips.

On 30th of July 2821, the Dadga Task Force arrived on planet. While Goliath Scorpions and other forces assaulted Firebase Delta the Fire Mandrills deployed to the other side of the planet, safe from massive SDS complex's weaponry. However, the planned invasion of the planet did not go as planned for Clan Fire Mandrill. Initial landings were complicated due to navigation errors which sent a number of binaries and critical campaign supplies spread beyond the mountains and along the coasts of their objective: the Continent of Salò.

With the loss of supplies and troops scattered the Mandrill campaign slowed. Only half of the supplies lost in the wilds of Mount Lucca were ever recovered. Though residents of Salò were not as organized or well armed, the Mandrill's lack of supplies and organization wore on the forces and equipment ceased to function due to lack of repair components and ammunition. The Mandrill support technicians made due and jury-rigged much of touman's equipment.[4] The Mandrills were able to take the city state of Garda despite the clan's problems and internal feuding.[5]

Most resistance in the Fire Mandrill's operation areas were in a weakened state and were no match to Mandrill's high-tech firepower. As the campaign moved into its end phases in the Night Labyrinth, home to vast canyons and rocky regions, the Clan's internal squabbling got best of them. The operation to clean up the last of resistance in their area would have been easy if not for tensions between Khan Sainze and saKhan Paynes. Both rivals bid away advantages such as satellite recon, aerial surveillance simply for sake of out doing each other, bogging the down clean up phases which could have been completed in days rather than the weeks it actually took.

The Clan was later criticized for squabbling and the wasting of its resources by ilKhan Kerensky during the post campaign debreifings.[6]
