Description
The BattleTech Faction Dice or Insignia Dice are a series of thirty sets of translucent dice announced by Catalyst Game Labs as a reward item available their crowdfunding effort for the BattleTech: Clan Invasion [Kickstarter campaign] which ran from 18 July 2019 to August 18 2019. Initially, only a small number of designs were available, but various stretch level goals expanded the range of dice designs available. The stretch goals were all achieved, initially unlocking each of the original Clans selected for Operation REVIVAL, then the Homeworld Clans and Great Houses, followed by two mercenary commands, Clans that had been annihilated or absorbed prior to Operation REVIVAL, and finally ComStar and the Free Rasalhague Republic. Included as a Great House option was the Federated Commonwealth, and during the Kickstarter process for defining the stretch goals, those pledged at the highest two levels of pledge were consulted on designs to be included.
Each die replaces the pips on the side that would normally display six pips with the faction symbol of the chosen faction. Each die is a 16mm translucent gem die, and each faction's die is a different color. Each set of dice has a different Catalyst Game Labs product number.
Availability
All of those backing the Kickstarter had the option to add Faction Dice to their pledge as add-on items, at a cost of $5 USD per pair of dice. Various pledge levels received quantities of free pairs as a part of their pledge: 1 pair ($20 USD and above), 4 pairs ($600+ USD pledge), 6 pairs ($150 USD retailer-only pledge) and 8 pairs ($5,000 USD pledge). There was also the option to purchase a Dice Collector Set containing a pair of each 30 faction dice for $125 USD.
