The Connaught system was home to at least one habitable world, Connaught III, and as of 3145 was located in the Covenant Worlds province within the Free Worlds League.[2][3]

System Description

The Connaught system is located near the Acubens and Bordon systems[2][3] and consists of a class M2V primary orbited by at least three planets. During the thirty-first century recharge stations were in place at the nadir and zenith jump points.[1]

System History

The Connaught system was settled at some point during the First Exodus from Terra.[4] By the end of the Age of War Connaught had been incorporated into the Tyrfing Province of the Terran Hegemony.[5]

Planetary History

Star League Era

During the final years of the Star League, the Rookery Drydocks, an orbital facility over Connaught, served as the homeport of the 17th Fleet (SLDF) of the Star League Defense Force.[32]

In 2775 Captain-General Kenyon Marik deployed the Second Marik Militia to Connaught, in a blatant attempt to secure the Terran Hegemony world for the Free Worlds League. Under the guise of "providing relief to the over-extended Star League Defense Force", the Second made an attempt to take control of the Kong Interstellar Corporation plant on the planet. the Kong Interstellar plant was a key military supplier that was rebuilding to pre-Civil War production levels, and was considered an important piece of infrastructure by the SLDF. The SLDF had no intention of simply giving up the plant, and a standoff between the Militia and the SLDF troops began, broken when shots were fired. In the resulting skirmish two companies of the Militia were destroyed, and the SLDF disarmed the remainder of the regiment and interned the personnel. Initially held on Connaught, the regiment was subsequently shipped to an interment camp on Talitha that Commanding General Aleksandr Kerensky ordered built specifically to hold the Second.[33]

Kenyon Marik demanded the release of the Second, as well as compensation for the damage the Militia had been taken, while FWLM regiments attempting to occupy four other recently-liberated Hegemony worlds issued ultimatums to the SLDF garrisons, demanding that they leave the worlds in the hands of the Free Worlds League forces. The SLDF responded by forcibly disarming and deporting each of the four regiments, although the SLDF troops allowed the aid workers who had travelled with them to remain; hostile communications between Kenyon Marik and Aleksandr Kerensky were exchanged for some time, causing Kerensky to commit more troops to defending worlds on the Free Worlds League border than he had originally planned. The personnel from the Second were repatriated, with most of the regiment back in Free Worlds League space by August, but five members of the regiment were tried and convicted for crimes against the SLDF. This included Colonel Lisl Stephenson, the Second's Commanding Officer. Those convicted received sentences of between eight and thirty years each.[33]

Jihad

In response to the recent raids and assaults on worlds within the Word of Blake Protectorate, the Blakists launched raiding parties against various worlds around the Protectorate border in early September 3076. Making use of weapons of mass destruction to augment the damage inflicted, the raiding parties - few of which were larger than a single Level III - struck at the worlds of Algorab, Alnasi, Amity, Bordon, Connaught, Hunan, Kessel, New Hessen, New Kyoto, Ronel, St. Andre, Styk, Tsitsang and Wei. Of the worlds hit, the Capellan Confederation took the brunt of the fighting.[34][35]

Geography

Connaught has four continents named Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.[1]

Planetary Locations

  • Ranelagh: the planetary capital city, located on Galway.[1]
  • Skellig: a city and the location on Leitrim of the Kong Interstellar manufacturing facilities. Skellig was also the site of the main planetary militia base.[1]
  • Rookery Drydocks: an orbital facility that served as homeport for the Star League Naval Forces.[32]
