DeBorah McDermott was a combat vehicle commander, serving with the Triarii Protectors, during the Dark Age Era.[1][2]

History[edit]

Triarii Protectors[edit]

A professional solider before it came back into fashion, McDermott enlisted with the Republic Armed Forces' Triarii Protectors in 3125, at the tender age of 21 and a full 7 years prior to the Blackout. A native of the Republic of the Sphere, and a student of the war-torn history of the thirty-first century and the eras preceding it, McDermott became an idealist and almost religious believer in the peaceful goals of Devlin Stone's grand experiment. She maintained this faith, even as the Republic seemed to be falling to the darkness and chaos of war, after the loss of HPG communications.[1]

Ningpo[edit]

In 3134 McDermott was stationed on Ningpo, when it was attacked by a Capellan force including mercenaries and elements of Warrior House Dai Da Chi, who were searching for Swordsworn units who Capellan intelligence had suggested were preparing to attack Liao claimed worlds within the Republic. On 20 March McDermott attempted to ambush a routine Capellan patrol of agricultural fields outside of Ningbo under the command of Pai-zhang Jung Chae, but both sides were forced to withdraw with heavy losses, after one of the Capellan mercenaries set the surrounding crops ablaze with his Firestarter.[2]

Vehicle[edit]

McDermott was known to have piloted a Mars assault tank, serial number GB2619-711F, nicknamed "Rolling Dutchman". Initially constructed for Clan Ghost Bear, it was used during the liberation of New Earth during the Word of Blake Jihad, during which its Ghost Bear crew died due to an enemy incendiary attack. McDermott claiming that the vehicle was haunted by its former crew, and she heard their voices, including during her battle on Ningpo.[1][2]
