The Deneb Kaitos system was home to at least one habitable world, Deneb Kaitos III, and as of 3145, was located in the remains of the Robinson Operational Area of the Draconis March within the Federated Suns.[2][3]

System Description

Deneb Kaitos is located near the Ankaa and Hean systems[4] and consists of a class K2III primary orbited by nine planets.[1]

System History

The Deneb Kaitos system was colonized by the Terran Hegemony[1] and had been colonized by the time the Capellan Confederation was founded in the mid-twenty-fourth century.[5]

Deneb Kaitos III - more commonly known simply as Deneb Kaitos - is an unremarkable world dominated by rolling grasslands and tundra, and has two moons named Diphda and Shemali.[1]

Planetary History

Though briefly controlled by the Capellan Confederation during the Third Succession War, Deneb Kaitos has long been a part of the Federated Suns. In that realm, it is best known as the homeworld of the Deneb Light Cavalry regiments. Many of the warriors of the DLC have traded Deneb Kaitos' tundra and grasslands for service in the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns.[1]

Star League Era

In January 2775, Stefan Amaris redeployed large numbers of Amaris Empire Armed Forces to a dozen worlds, including Deneb Kaitos. AEAF units had used weapons of mass destruction regularly against Star League Defense Force units throughout the Hegemony Campaign, predominantly to either damage the SLDF units targeted or to strike at civilian targets to prevent the SLDF from obtaining resources and supplies. In this case, Amaris' orders were different: he intended to create scorched wastelands that Commanding General Aleksandr Kerensky would have no choice but to try and clear, whilst saddling the SLDF with huge numbers of sick and starving civilians. The AEAF units deployed to Deneb Kaitos and the other eleven worlds due to be abandoned by Amaris launched large-scale WMD attacks with one purpose: to ravage the worlds, preventing them from sustaining either their human populations or their various industries... to create wastelands.[38]

The AEAF tactic was both brutal and brutally effective. Kerensky deployed twelve corps of SLDF personnel into Amaris Empire space, and each discovered the same horrific situations. Forced to deploy the SLDF reserve into action, by February, Kerensky had almost a hundred SLDF divisions either on the twelve ravaged worlds or en route to them, trying to provide aid to the populations and to clear up what damage they could.[38] Deneb Kaitos fell within the operating area of Task Force Commonwealth and the Nineteenth Army Group deployed LVI Corps to try and assist the population.[39] The devastation wreaked across Deneb Kaitos and the other worlds bought Amaris time; for several months, Kerensky was unable to resume offensive operations because of a lack of resources, and ultimately the Commanding General had no choice but to call on the Capellan Confederation, Lyran Commonwealth, and Federated Suns to provide relief where they could.[38]

After the fall of the Star League, one of the regiments most strongly associated with Deneb Kaitos - the Fourth Deneb Light Cavalry - chose not to depart on the Exodus with Commanding General Aleksandr Kerensky and the bulk of the Star League Defense Force. The fall of the Star League had led to starvation on Deneb Kaitos as food shipments were cut off, and the Fourth - then one of the SLDF Rapid Deployment Mixed Armed Forces (RMDAF) regiments - agreed to sign on with the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns in exchange for food shipments to support the planetary population.[1]

The Jihad

The Word of Blake launched a wave of attacks during the first two weeks of July 3069 that targeted the worlds of Bharat, Deneb Kaitos, Ingress, Kawich, and Ruchbah. Deneb Kaitos was one of the worlds to fall in the face of a conventional assault and was incorporated into the Word of Blake Protectorate.[29] During their assault, the Word of Blake forces destroyed the Fourth Deneb Light Cavalry as a combat force.[40] Years later during Operation SCOUR, the FedSuns task force liberated the world and discovered that the remains of the Fourth DLC had been fighting a guerrilla resistance war since the destruction of the regiment. They were assisted in this by the many veterans and retirees from the DLC.[1] As of 3085, the world is home to the rebuilding Fourth DLC.[41]

Dark Age

Deneb Kaitos was targeted by the DCMS during Operation TIAMAT in June 3149. While the Third Federated Suns Armored Cavalry managed to delay the Combine conquest of the world, they were forced off-world after two weeks of fighting.[35]
