Planetary History

Early History

Derf was one of seven worlds settled by colonists from the Rim Worlds Republic between 2334 and 2338 as an attempt by Maxwell Rowe to create a buffer zone between the Republic, the Draconis Combine and the Tamar Pact.[1]

Reunification War

By the end of the Age of War Derf was a part of the Apollo Province of the Rim Worlds Republic.[2]

Civil war erupted in the Rim Worlds Republic in 2575, with the factions polarized around those loyal to First Consul Gregory Amaris and those loyal to the Rift Republican Army and the Rim Provisional Government.[29] The Star League eventually decided to intervene in the civil war in support of Gregory Amaris, and in 2579 assembled Task Force MAILED FIST to help secure Amaris' control over the Rim Worlds Republic. A multinational force headed by the Star League Defense Force, Task Force MAILED FIST was responsible for executing Operation MAILED FIST, the name given to the military intervention. the first wave of attacks focused on securing significant worlds near Apollo,[30] until a destructive raid on Alarion by the 4th Amaris Fusiliers in retaliation prompted the SLDF to alter its initial strategy for the campaign, the focus shifted to reducing Rim Worlds Army concentrations throughout the Republic and the capture of key worlds.[31]

In late 2584 the SLDF changed tactics again; a number of major RWA units had been destroyed or captured, and the focus for the campaign shifted to capturing worlds of strategic importance, but the campaign was slowed by the greatly increased resistance offered by the RWA and local civilian populations, prompted by atrocities performed by the Draconis Auxiliary Corps when they captured Nightwish in mid-2584. The conquest of Derf was one such example of a campaign that took longer than originally planned due to the level of resistance offered by the civilian population; General Nathan Isaacson of Battle Group Apollo assigned the Seventeenth Royal Division - one of three divisions that comprised VI Corps - to conquering Derf in 2586, but even a year after the planetary capital had been occupied instances of civil unrest were still occurring.[32][33]

Star League Era

Derf was conquered by the Lyran Commonwealth during the 2773-2775 Republic-Commonwealth war.[9]

Clan Invasion

Derf was conquered by Clan Jade Falcon during the Second Wave of Operation Revival in May 3050. The 3rd Falcon Talon made their landing on the planet, intending to finish off the survivors of the 12th Donegal Guards who had escaped from Trell I. However, so dishearten were the Donegal Guards at their earlier defeat that many simply gave up without a fight. Those few who continued to resist were easily crushed and by the end of the day the planet belonged to the Jade Falcons.[34]

Jihad

The planet was invaded again during the Jihad, when Clan Ice Hellion launched an invasion of the Clan Jade Falcon holdings in the Inner Sphere in early 3071. Derf was invaded by the Ice Hellions between the 7th and 28th of June 3071, but the Ice Hellion invasion stalled as heavy fighting continued on Wotan and other worlds throughout July 3071.[21][22]
