Edmond Rydz was the commanding officer of The Phantoms III-gamma of ComStar's Eighty-third Division as of 3062.[1]

History[edit]

Demi-Precentor VI Rydz, serving with the Eighty-Third Division, was headquartered on Bryant in 3062.[1]

Immediately prior to the Word of Blake Jihad, Edmond Rydz and the rest of the Eighty-third Division were ordered by Precentor Martial Pro-Tem Gavin Dow to move to Tall Trees after Bryant chose admission into the newly formed Word of Blake Protectorate. [3][4] After the outbreak of the Jihad, the Blakist Third and Fourth Division struck Tall Trees with a vengeance. Rydz and The Phantoms were pinned down in the city of Helena by the Fourth Division while the Third Division sent six Level IIIs against the other half of the Eighty-third Division in the city of Fa Shura.[5]

Heavily outnumbered, Edmond Rydz would lead the breakout from Helena in his Spartan, using the speed of his rare BattleMech to keep his troops together as he offered encouragement and support even while constantly in the thickest of the fighting. Ultimately he was the last to board the waiting evacuation DropShips, his 'Mech all but stripped of armor and missing an arm, but otherwise operational. Edmond Rydz was the highest ranked surviving officer from the entire Eighty-third Division,[5] leading the survivors to link up with the Seventy-sixth Division at Zurich.[6]

Rydz had never desired command; he was not the best or fastest or smartest and just wanted to do his job. One could call it wrong-place-wrong-time or dumb luck but the Acolyte consistently rose through the ranks due to being the last man standing. Rydz believed in ComStar's purpose and scorned those who would use the teachings of Jerome Blake to do harm to others. As Rydz's promotions followed each tragedy, he began to understand that by inspiring those around him, they could accomplish their mission together.[2]

BattleMechs[edit]

Demi-Precentor VI Edmond Rydz piloted a Spartan BattleMech.[2]

Quotes[edit]

A good leader of troops will value the lives under their command and not spend them unwisely.[2]

Notes[edit]

Rydz's name is spelled as Edmond on the Snord's Irregulars Assault Lance pilot card, but has an established history as Edmund in the more prevalent literature previously released.
