The El Giza system was home to at least one habitable world and as of 3145 was located in the Oriente Protectorate region of the Free Worlds League.[1][2]

System Description

The El Giza system is located near the Dalian and Mosiro systems.[3]

System History

The El Giza system was colonized during the First Exodus from Terra prior to the Age of War.[4][5]

Planetary History

El Giza is a world of purple Fronds[1] instead of conventional trees or grasses. The Heather - as its known to locals - grows up to between three and four meters tall. The inhabitants communities are almost hidden by the Heather at the bottom of valleys that dot the landscape. The primary industry on El Giza is agriculture, with local buildings being constructed of scrap metal since there are no trees.[45]

Star League Era

El Giza was one of some fifty-one heavily contested worlds to have been placed under Terran Hegemony authority as a jointly-administered world during the Age of War or Star League era.[46] During the time of the First Star League El Giza was the home of a major trading nexus and Star League base on the border between the Free Worlds League and Capellan Confederation. El Giza was a regional communications center and the home of a robust entertainment industry with a highly academic culture; scholars traveled from throughout the rimward half of the Inner Sphere to attend its schools.[47] During the First Succession War El Giza once more became a flashpoint between the Free Worlds League and Capellan Confederation.[46]

Dark Age

After a dozen violent takeovers during the Succession Wars El Giza was left devastated. In contrast with the conflict of the Succession Wars, El Giza was left unscathed after the Jihad.[47]

In 3082 El Giza was defended by the Fourth Andurien Cavalry as a part of the defense pact between the Mosiro Archipelago and the Duchy of Andurien; late in that year, a Capellan Confederation BattleMech company arrived on world as part of an effort by the Confederation to wedge a new border between the Confederation, the Duchy of Andurien and the nearby Oriente Protectorate. The Andurien Cavalry tracked the Capellan forces and dispatched a lance of new Aeron Strike VTOLs to intercept the Capellan troops as they attempted to meet up with their DropShip. The Andurien forces ambushed the CCAF company, dropping three 'Mechs quickly and then harassing the remaining 'Mechs until all had been destroyed before they could rendezvous with their waiting transport.[48]

By the 3130s the Duchy of Andurien considered the world marginally strategically valuable due to its proximity to that era's major trading hub of Mosiro. By 3137 El Giza had become the home of the Fourth Andurien Cavalry until the war with the Oriente Protectorate, during which the planet was taken by the Covenant Worlds First Expeditionary Force, becoming a part of the Protectorate.[citation needed]
