Description
The Model 96 Tug, also known as the Elephant was a Star League era designed Space Tug boat used to shipyards moving large craft and supplement task forces in support of assault missions.
Deployment History
Early Service
The Elephant was developed for the Star League Navy after the fighting of the Reunification War, the newly formed navy determined it needed better support in its deployments. When the call went out, only Nimakachi Fusion Products Ltd. was able to supply a design that meet the Navy's needs.
First deployed in May 2600, the ship was deployed to League's major shipyards as well its Navy's mobile repair yard assets, acting as means to defend them should need arise.[3]
It most notable usage was during the Star League era when the two squadrons of the SLDF's 23rd Wing ("The Little Beavers") fought Rim Worlds Republic forces attempting take over Terra in December of 2766.[4] The Wing's two squadrons of Elephants stationed Titan, Mars, & Venus shipyards sprung to action to attempt fend of force of Stephan Amaris in his bloody coup. Two squadrons consisting of Elephants were destroyed while fighting Terra's SDS & Republican forces. Despite their loss, they managed to take out one of the Republic's Dart (WarShip) Light Cruisers, the RWRS Conquistador.[5][6]
Deployed in ComStar & Word of Blake Service
During the Succession Wars, ComStar had produced limited number of ships between 2882 and [2994]]. These newly built Elephants were deployed to ComStar's secret fleet bases in Ross 248 & Luyten 68-28 star systems assisting its Faslane Yarships.
Several these ships defected to newly formed Word of Blake splinter faction in 3052 during the ComStar Schism. In following years after Schism, Blakist's Navy had expanded, so they produced more the Model 96 to meet these needs. Intelligence reports, had sighted Elephants in use in Deep Periphery, near Hanseatic League.[7]
Armament & Capacities
The Elephant is designed for dual roles of shipyard work and combat. For its role as shipyard vessel, the ship has powerful electro-magnetic tug adapter, single retractable and powerful PlasmaStar engines, the ship is able maneuver largest of Warships. With its reinforced armored bow, & other ship's equipment there, they gives ship appearance being not unlike a elephant, hence the class's nickname.
The ship in role as Assault Ship, has given considerable combination of powerful long & short range weaponry. It is designed to carry Combined Arms force of Company of 'Mechs, four platoons of Jump Infantry, four small craft, and eight Heavy vehicles.[8]
The ship is protected by 76.5 tons of ferro-aluminum armor. It Weapons bays hold 60 tons of Gauss Rifle rounds as well as 6 tons of LRM 10 ammunition.

Notes
The Technical Readout: 3026 Revised was the when the vehicle was introduced. Since that publication, changes to game & construction have introduced since Total Warfare. Transport bays contents differ from the design second appearance in TRO:3075. The design does not have a published Record sheet from TRO:3075's record sheet books (Paper & PDF).
