The Fletcher system was the location of at least one habitable world, Fletcher VII, and as at 3145 was located in the Tikonov Commonality of the Capellan Confederation.[3][4]

System Description

The Fletcher system is located near the Ingress and Sheratan systems[3][4] and consists of a class G4V primary orbited by ten planets.[1]

System History

The Fletcher system was colonised at some point during the First Exodus from Terra.[5]

Fletcher VII

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Fletcher VII - more commonly known simply as Fletcher - is the seventh planet in the system and has been home to a number of notable manufacturing facilities during its history.[1]

Planetary History

Early History

Previously unermarkable, Fletcher became home to House Fletcher, a notable family from the Fletcher system located in Free Worlds League space. Loyal supporters of House Marik, House Fletcher relocated to this Fletcher in dramatic fashion - along with their millions of followers - after the Duke of Oriente attacked their homeworld in 2368.[2] A Terran Hegemony world, Fletcher grew to be a major industrial world, with a number of defense manufacturers operating facilities on the planet including StarCorps Industries, Flame Tech,[6] Caletra Fighters and Yelm Weapons.[1]

During the Age of War Fletcher became the burial site of Chancellor Aleisha Liao, the Chancellor best remembered for authoring the Ares Conventions.[2] The Hegemony insisted on Fletcher being Aleisha's final resting place in recognition of her contributions towards civilizing warfare,[1] and other Chancellors would later also choose Fletcher as their final resting place.[2][1] For many years convention maintained that House Davion and House Marik refrained from launching attacks on Fletcher accordingly.[2]

Succession Wars

First Succession War

Following the fall of the Terran Hegemony, Fletcher was occupied by the Capellan Confederation.[7] The amount of force involved was apparently sufficient to convince the Hegemony militia forces garrisoning the world not to forcibly resist.[8] Like many Hegemony worlds, the numerous conflicts over Fletcher during the First Succession War caused the destruction of much of the planet's industrial infrastructure.[6][1] By the end of the First Succession War only the Flame Tech factories were still manufacturing, out of all the former defense facilities.[1] Fletcher became little more than a funeral world, albeit a self-sufficient one.[1]

Third Succession War

Fletcher was attacked by the Federated Suns a number of times during the Third Succession War. In 2985 Fletcher was under siege by the AFFS; defending Fletcher were several units including Kingston's Legionnaires[9] Lockhardt's Ironsides[10] and the newly-reconstituted St. Cyr's Armored Grenadiers.[11] The Legionnaires had the misfortune of tangling with the Forty-second Avalon Hussars, losing a third of their strength in the opening battles and then, due to poor communications, failing to receive orders to fall back, that led to the Hussars destroying three-fifths of the Legionnaires before the mercenaries fell back.[9] The Grenadiers fared little better, also losing many men and much of it's materiel in battles with the AFFS.[11] In contrast with the Grenadiers and Legionnaires, Lockhardt's Ironsides gained a reputation as a really good command for their role in the battle for Fletcher.[10]

In 3019, Flame Tech was awarded a new contract to supply flamers to the Free Worlds Guard, allowing for a new production facility to be opened and to expand its research operation on Fletcher. [12]

In 3024 AFFS forces attacked Epsilon Eridani and Fletcher, but the mercenary unit Laurel's Legion were able to blunt the attacks.[13]

Fourth Succession War

Following negotiations between Colonel Pavel Ridzik, chief military advisor to Chancellor Maximillian Liao, and AFFS Lieutenant General Ardan Sortek, conducted in February 3029 Ridzik created a new nation, the Tikonov Free Republic. The Republic was created by incorporating those worlds of the Tikonov Commonality that hadn't already been conquered during the first half of the Fourth Succession War. Ridzik returned to Elgin, the new capital of the Tikonov Free Republic, on the 3rd of March 3029 and swiftly began implementing a new government consisting of family members, friends and other appointees loyal to himself, purging dissident elements on the various Republic worlds and taking the opportunity to settle old scores. Fletcher was one of the systems incorporated into the Republic.[14]

Clan Invasion

Operation GUERRERO

Only lightly garrisoned by the Federated Commonwealth due to the limited industrial value of the world and military commitments in light of the Clan Invasion, Fletcher was a ripe target for attack by the Capellan-backed Zhanzeng de Guang terrorists. An attempted unsupported conquest by the guerrillas during the Operation GUERRERO attacks on the Federated Commonwealth destroyed the planetary HPG station, plunging the world into a communications blackout relative to most Inner Sphere planets.[6]

In the wake of that destruction and the failure to impose outside order, Fletcher devolved into a series of city-states, which created an opportunity for illicit activities, including under-the-table contracts to mercenaries. The capital city, Royce, was one of the few areas with some degree of stability due it falling under the control of militia units who were inspired by the ideals of the Federated Commonwealth but who were not loyal to the government of that state. The spaceport was maintained during this period, permitting space-based trade with other city-states as well as supporting offworld trade, a situation considered safer due to the presence of heavily-armed pirates and bandits on overland routes.[6] the site of the destroyed HPG turned into an illicit hiring hall frequented by disreputable mercenaries who often found themselves taking on work that the MRBC would refuse to sanction. The Royce Hiring Center had strict no-weapons policies enforced by a large, well-armed security force and permitted discrete meetings between commands looking for work and the employers who offered it. Negotiations were not guaranteed by any party and betrayals were common.[6]

Civil War

Following the eruption of the FedCom Civil War, Capellan-aligned irregulars once again attempted to seize control of Fletcher, successfully taking over some outlying areas. While the Confederation declared itself victorious due to the breadth of territory controlled, the matter was still contested in some quarters.[6]

The Jihad

Fletcher was attacked by the Word of Blake in late 3067, part of a campaign that saw the Blakists incorporate Fletcher into the Word of Blake Protectorate by the 30th of December, along with the nearby worlds of Epsilon Indi and Tall Trees.[15] Shortly after crushing the opposition, the Word shut down all mercenary hiring and converted the Hall to a detention center.[16] Having captured Fletcher, the Blakists largely ignored the planet for the remainder of the Jihad.[1]

In late 3077, the world was liberated during the Federated Suns thrust toward Terra by the First Davion Guards and ComStar's Second Army. Operating as a part of Group II on the Federated Suns front of Operation SCOUR, the First Davion Guards were commanded by Conner Sortek, while Galen Cox led the Com Guard forces; the campaign for Fletcher was recorded as having been brief by the media in the Federated Suns, with the allied coalition forces delivering far more damage than they received, crushing the defending Blakist forces.[17]

The Dark Age

Elements of Clan Wolf chose to resettle on Fletcher during the Dark Age, having decided to resettle within the Republic of the Sphere, and restored many of the Star League era factories before using them to manufacture civilian machinery.[1]

On the 25th January 3135, during the black-out, a riot started in Valis City because the people though a series on incoming DropShips were Capellan Confederation forces were arriving on the planet. Legate David Fouche calmed he citizens informing them that the incoming DropShips where part of the scheduled re-supply convoy coming in from [New Home] that was arriving a day earlier. Nevertheless, Martial Law was enacted until all riots were stopped and assigned forces from the Fletcher Militia to do that.[18]

Geography

Fletcher has a single supercontinent named Hamilton, and the combination of a high-pressure atmosphere and constant cloud cover make it a damp and chilly world.[1]

Planetary Locations

  • Bridges: a city on Hamilton.[71]
  • Royce: the planetary capital city.[1]
  • Valis City: A city in the planet.[18]

Notes

When first mentioned in House Liao (The Capellan Confederation), Fletcher was described as being located 7 days from the system jump points.[2]
