Legate Francis Nguyen was the Planetary Legate of Vega, for the Republic of the Sphere, from 3129 to 3133.[1][2][3][4][5]

Appointment as Legate[edit]
Appointed as Vega's Legate, and CO of the Vega Republic Standing Guard in 3129, Nguyen spend the early part of his tenure seeking to whip the formerly complacent Planetary Militia into shape.[6]
Still Legate on Gray Monday at the start of the Blackout, 7 August 3132, Nguyen was on a inspection tour of New Egypt days afterwards when an explosives-laden fighter from the local garrison intentionally crashed into the government precinct in Neucason. The resulting explosion destroyed the HPG station, as well as most of the planetary bureaucracy, including the Governor Olivia Vron.[7]
Declaring martial law, Nguyen became the sole maintainer of law and order on Vega, a job he took very seriously. Despite maintaining the loyalty of his troops in the post Blackout period, his world was politically unstable, and a number of rivals arose in outlying provinces and within the Militia itself to his status as the world's de-facto leader.[8]
Draconis Combine Invasions[edit]
Nguyen scored a success in March 3133, when a militia garrison in the port city of Rahat, was able to defeat a raid by the Dragon's Fury's Amaterasu. He was not however able to consolidate on this victory, as during a subsequent attempted invasion by the Third New Samarkand Regulars later in 3133, he was killed by a lucky shot by a Regulars Panther 'Mech. In death Nguyen's militia were victorious, due to the Regulars losing more than half their forces to a DropShip crash, but quickly dissolved into chaos due to the leadership vacuum his death left behind.[8][9]
