History
Background
Vlasic was a native of the Federated Suns, attending the Combat College of New Earth, before entering into the SLDF as a Lieutenant.[2]
Early Career
He went to on serve in a number of independent Regiments, before taking command of the 308th Dragoon Regiment in 2740, with which he distinguished himself by defeating a Battalion-size band of ex-Lyran Commonwealth MechWarrior who had been raiding words within the Rim Worlds Republic.
Subsequently being promoted to Lieutenant General, he served on the command staff of the 428th BattleMech Division, before taking overall command of it in 2749. His rise continued in 2752 with promotion to lead LIX Corps, before taking over Twentieth Army in 2755.[2]
Twentieth Army
Having served his entire career within the borders of the Rim Worlds Republic up to his appointment to the then RWR based Twentieth Army, he was shocked to learn of the Birthday Proclamations just days after he assumed command, ordering its withdrawal into the Inner Sphere.
He sought to defer compliance with the order due to his knowledge of how fragile the peace was with the RWR, hoping Commanding General Aleksandr Kerensky could have it reversed, but finally was forced to start transferring his forces after the orders were reiterated by both Kerensky and his deputy Aaron DeChavilier. By March 2758, the last of Twentieth Army had crossed over into the Draconis Combine and Lyran Commonwealth.
The stress of the withdrawal left Vlasic harried and in less than perfect health, struggling to maintain the morale of his Army, though despite warnings his superiors did not move to have him removed from his post. He however remained loyal to his troops, placing his headquarters on the Combine world of New Oslo as late as 2764, seeking to remain close to the RWR in the event of any problems arising from that quarter despite orders to move towards the Outworlds Alliance starting in 2760.
This aversion to his orders in this regard went as far as turning a blind eye to his subordinates running "reconnaissance-in-force" missions back to the RWR, which sometimes came into conflict with Rim Worlds forces suspected to be bandits, due to his belief the continuing presence of the Twentieth Army was all that kept anti-Star League forces in the Rim Worlds from moving into the open.[2]
Amaris Civil War
Vlasic remained in command of Twentieth Army through the Amaris Civil War, serving during the fighting in the Outworlds Alliance during the New Vandenberg Uprising[1], all the way up to Operation LIBERATION and the liberation of Terra in 2777, during which Vlasic was involved in the capture of the Aquarius Arcology near Japan.[3]
