The Graus system was home to at least one habitable world, Graus I, and as at 3145 was located in the Clan Jade Falcon Occupation Zone.[2][3]

System Description

The Graus system is located near the Deweidewd and Stonarboi systems.[4] The Graus system consists of a class G4V primary orbited by at least one world.[1]

System History

The Graus system was settled by the Lyran Commonwealth during the Star League era at some point after the end of the Reunification War.[5][4]

Graus IV

Graus I, more commonly known simply as Graus, is the innermost world in the Graus system and while it lacks any moons, the planet has a notable dust ring.[1]

Planetary History

Early History

Graus was settled by a mix of French, Spanish, and German settlers. Soon after it was settled it developed a strong economy based on agriculture, holovids, and luxury civilian goods.[1]

Star League

The Star League Defense Force II Corps assisted the inhabitants of the New Crete region on Graus when an unexpected blizzard hit the area.[6]

Succession Wars

In the late 2980’s a strong back to nature movement was founded on the world. A response to the wholesale destruction of the Succession Wars, this movement became very popular and eventually gained power in 3007. The newly elected pacifist government banned all heavy military forces from the world. This left a planet-wide police force as the only military group available.[1]

Clan Invasion

One unexpected result of this lack of military forces was the way Clan Jade Falcon ignored the world.[1] Unlike other worlds that were heavily defended, Graus didn't suffer from the arrival of the Falcons. With no resistance, the Falcons simply garrisoned the world and integrated the world into their occupation zone,[1] after the Fourth Falcon Velites had landed to confirm that the planetary government wasn't deceiving them when it declared there were no forces defending their planet.[7]

In the aftermath of the Battle of Tukayyid Graus became the site of a fierce battle between forces from the Jade Falcons and Clan Steel Viper. Defending Graus at the time were two clusters from the Falcon's Vau Galaxy, the Fourth Falcon Velites and the Eighty-ninth Striker Cluster. Timed to join with their assault on the nearby world of Antares, the Steel Vipers deployed two clusters from their Alpha Galaxy, the Fourth Viper Guards and 400th Assault Cluster, to attack Graus. The Steel Viper interest in Graus focussed on the rumours of a Star League memory cache located on Graus, but were unable to coordinate their attack closely with the attack on Antares, which went off half an hour ahead of the Alpha Galaxy forces arriving above Graus. The warning sent from Antares gave the defending Jade Falcon forces time to prepare a defense, leading to three days and nights of intense battles, with the heaviest fighting occuring around the Garros Spaceport and the planetary capital, New Paris. The Falcons decided to abandon Graus, but by the time that decision had been made, both sides had taken significant losses.[8]

The Clan caste system fit well with the neo-communal system employed by the Grausians. When the world was liberated by Lyran forces the transition in cultural mores was difficult, but the Grausians’ native pacifism made the transition easier.[1] The Lyran government wisely didn't pressure the Grausians, leaving them to realize the benefits of being part of the Commonwealth on their own. However, Graus was recaptured by the Jade Falcons on the 7th of October 3068.[9]
