Block categorization?

I think this is probably the best place to raise the issue, although it doesn't directly have anything to do with this help page: Is there any way (code) to supress categorization? Many templates contain a category tag as part of the template. This appeared to be a smart idea when I started it, but it also sorts "wrong" articles into the respective categories, namely articles of an administrative nature such as this Help article that contain the templates in question for one reason or another. Simply disabling wikicode won't work as the templates would not display correctly (I assume). Any ideas anybody? Frabby 16:15, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

I've been wrestling with that too. I know there is a way, but I can't recall it. I tried using 'pre' code, but that doesn't seem to work. Maybe Ebakunin might know. Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:18, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
I've been doing some reading on category suppression but my big attempt to update one of the templates with it to attempt to address this very issue failed miserably. I'll keep plinking away at it. JubalHarshaw (talk) 14:40, 27 March 2018 (EDT)
Looks like I've got it! I created a template, CatMainOther, with documentation. I've modified one template and verified it no longer categories this help page, but does still categorize main pages. JubalHarshaw (talk) 15:26, 27 March 2018 (EDT)

Additional functionality

I've refrained from updating the Policy template, Deletion template, etc. because they are a bit more complex, or in the case of Policy use a different namespace. I'll look into increasing the functionality of the suppression template to address other namespaces, but I feel it's a good start. JubalHarshaw (talk) 15:40, 27 March 2018 (EDT)

Also, I have no rights to modify the Stub template. JubalHarshaw (talk) 15:51, 27 March 2018 (EDT)
Just for us ignorant folks, what is a suppression template, I feel this might be something I need to know --Dmon (talk) 17:51, 27 March 2018 (EDT)
"Category suppression" is what I'm trying to do, basically to address the issue noted above about the templates applying their categories on the help page. The template itself is a bit of code that allows you to have the article display different text or apply different categories depending on whether or not you are in the main article space, so you could have the page apply a different category (or do anything really) in spaces other than the main article space. Apocryphal yellow

I am not a fan of the new color for Apocryphal stuff, I think that we have used the yellow for so long that I associate it in a pretty strong way.--Dmon (talk) 17:06, 8 October 2021 (EDT)

I had changed the background color of all the "Apocryphal" templates to "lilac" in order for it to be better seen by those with color blindness as well as to be different from our other templates.--Deadfire (talk) 19:52, 8 October 2021 (EDT)
