Henry DeCalidore was one of members of the Lyran Commonwealth's Triumvirate Regency from October 13 2849 to 20 January 2859.[1]
Biography
In his youth Henry DeCalidore had an undistinguished career as an Aerospace fighter pilot.[2] Following the death of the Mad Archon Claudius Steiner and the restoration of the Estates General, DeCalidore was selected as both the representative for Furillo as well as the new Speaker of the Assembly in 2849. With Claudius' wife Rebecca Morgan refusing to rule as sole regent for her daughter Elizabeth, convinced that power caused her husband's madness, the Estates General suggested a Triumvirate made up of three separate but equal members, additionally suggesting it be made up of Rebecca Morgan to represent the interests of her daughter, Duchess Ilysa Aten to represent the Lyran nobility and Henry DeCalidore to represent the wishes of the Estates General. On October 13, 2849, the new Triumvirate met in the Throne Room, seated at an onyx and slate-sapphire table placed on the floor before the dais and empty throne.[3] [1] [4] [5]
During the early part of the Triumvirate's decade long existence the body was quite focused on ensuring the survival of the Commonwealth through the most critical years of the Second Succession War, but the later half the body was increasingly rife with infighting with its members perusing their own private agendas, reflecting his former career most of DeCalidore's efforts focused in the area of the military. All three put aside their agendas in the face greater dangers of the advancing Draconis Combine and Free Worlds League, most notably during the Sixth, seventh and eighth battles of Hesperus II in 2853. With Defiance Industries, the Commonwealth's largest suriving BattleMech manufacturer, besieged by a massive Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery invasion force, Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces relief forces repeatedly proved unable to defeat the Combine's naval blockade which featured the last of the Combine's WarShip fleet. As the LCAF High Command desperately looked for answer, Henry DeCalidore pointed out the solution was above their very heads, suggesting a daring and ultimately successful plan to reactivate the decommissioned LCS Invincible, the last surviving capital WarShip of the Lyran Commonwealth, to break the blockade.[2] The success of this plan would boost the ego of Henry DeCalidore immeasurably, who in the wake of battles on Hesperus II now fancied himself a new Napoleon, increasingly meddling in the workings of the LCAF High Command. Seemingly seeking supreme military authority despite his relative inexperience, the elite generals of the High Command would resent the commoner DeCalidore as a dangerous fool, the situation not escaping the notice of young Elizabeth Steiner.[4] [5] [7]
Recognizing the dangers of his ongoing meddling in both the High Command and the Estate General, once Elizabeth came of age and became Archon on 20 January 2859 she provided each member of the now-dissolved Triumvirate a "gift" to thank them for their service, giving Henry DeCalidore command of the newly formed 23rd Lyran Regulars along with orders to head to the Combine front to ensure he was kept too busy to do anything else than oversee his new regiment.[4] [7]
Death and Legacy
Colonel Henry DeCalidore and the 23rd Lyran Regulars were stationed on Sakhalin when it was raided by Combine forces in February 2860. The raid spearheaded by a large number of DCMS Land Air 'Mechs, while the Lyran forces were able to successfully repulse the Combine forces after inflicting heavy losses upon them, the Kurita troops were successful in killing the commander of Lyran defenses. In public the Archon and LCAF High Command bemoaned the loss of Henry DeCalidore, but secretly were pleased that the disruptive interloper had been removed.[7]
