Hovertec

Hovertec is a common brand of BattleMech-scale Missile launchers in use throughout the Inner Sphere.

Overview[edit]

Dating as far back as the Star League era, Hovertec's range of Short-Range Missile launchers saw wide usage across the Inner Sphere. [1] It was during this period that the company also gained a good reputation for the manufacture of the Star League's advanced Streak SRM-2 launchers as well. While relegated to second place by the Terran manufactured Holly brand, Hovertec still produced Streak SRM-2s in large volumes for the Capellan Confederation, Free Worlds League and the Lyran Commonwealth's Federation of Skye.[2]

Though its Streak launchers disappeared following the Star League's fall, Hovertec's more mundane SRM launchers would continue to see high usage throughout the Succession War era. Following the discovery of the Helm Memory Core Hovertec's Streak SRM-2 would return to the battlefield to see combat during the Clan Invasion, with the company later producing larger Streak launchers based off reverse-engineered Clan technology via Oriente Weapon Works thanks to an technology exchange deal with Lycomb-Davion IntraTech of New Avalon. [3]

Hovertec was noted as a Free Worlds League-based manufacturer of Anti-Ship and Anti-Ship Electronic Warfare Missiles during the Word of Blake Jihad. When Andurien Aerospace of Lopez developed the SHV-S Shiva Leyda in 3079, overly optimistic estimates led the company to believe it could fit three of such missiles in the Shiva's roomy internal bomb bay but Hovertec's attempts to reconfigure its missiles to allow this were unsuccessful, forcing AA to reduce the Shiva Leyda's load down to just two.[4]

By the Dark Age era Hovertec were able to manufacture more advanced Clan grade versions of at least some of its SRM launchers.[5]
