History

Iota Galaxy entered the Inner Sphere shortly after the Second Wave of Operation Revival, when ilKhan Leo Showers granted permission for Garrison Clusters to be deployed in the Occupation Zones. [1] By 3054 the Galaxy had settled into a defensive position guarding four systems,[2] and had been active crushing rebellions.[3]

During the Refusal War of 3057 the Galaxy was almost destroyed as Wolf forces overran all of its component clusters. The Eighth Falcon Regulars and Dorbeng Garrison Cluster were destroyed on Sudeten, the Choyer Garrison Cluster took very heavy casualties on Devin and the Nega Garrison Cluster was wiped out on Baker 3.[4] The Galaxy had to be reconstructed with new Clusters transferred in as well as fresh warriors straight out of the Sibkos.

In 3059, Iota Galaxy held the Spinward section of the Jade Falcon Occupation Zone. The Seventy-third Striker Cluster was soundly defeated by the Blue Star Irregulars, and found itself demoted to second-line status for its poor performance, including the loss of a WarShip.[5] They weren't able to meet all of their defensive needs even by 3067, as several Clusters were still understrength.

In June 3069 elements of Iota faced the 1st Kell Hounds on Graceland. The Falcons killed Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Allard in this engagement.[6]

In 3074 or early 3075 Iota Galaxy launched an attack on the Lyran Alliance world of Zanderij. Zanderij was garrisoned by mercenary units at the time: Greenburg's Godzillas, the Tooth of Ymir and Thor's Hammers. The Thor's Hammers mercenary unit, commanded by Major Napoleon Hobart, had recently taken receipt of a battery of newly-manufactured Helepolis 'Mechs which had been organized into a battery of Artillery 'Mechs commanded by Captain Gustav Colt. Colt was a veteran artilleryman from the 12th Star Guards, a multi-regiment mercenary unit destroyed during the initial Clan invasion. Colt and the motley collection of 'Mechs armed with artillery weapons known as "Hobart's Funnies" proved hugely effective against the Jade Falcon forces, pinning Iota Galaxy down with a constant artillery barrage and preventing the Falcon forces from breaking out of their initial landing zone. Iota Galaxy attempted to remove Colt's forces by launching a head-hunting attack using Elementals, only to discover that the Hammers had predicted the attack and screened the Funnies extensively with conventional forces; the Elementals were wiped out by the Hammers, leaving the surviving elements of Iota Galaxy little option but to withdraw.[7]

Around 3085 Iota Galaxy was deployed to the border with the Lyran Commonwealth, where the Gyrfalcon Eyrie and Fifty-first Garrison Clusters experienced difficulty combating insurgents on Blue Hole and Goat Path respectively.[8]

The warriors of Iota Galaxy were not affected by the Rending, and so in 3140 they were ordered to assault Melissia. Shocking observers, Iota actually took the world and secured the new border with the Lyran Commonwealth. After taking Melissia, Iota became a favorite target of raids by LCAF mercenaries. Iota was unable to respond quickly to these raids, and chose to vent their frustration on local civilian towns and infrastructure. This only hurt Iota more, as civilians began to create a resistance movement.[9]
