Plot Summary
The story is told from the perspective of Chu-sa Fengo Olesko, the commanding officer of the Fifth Amphigean Light Assault Group's third battalion during the War of 3039. Since the beginning of the invasion of Vega her unit has been repeatedly mauled by Snord's Irregulars. Olesko suspects that Rhonda Snord has somehow gained access to the Fifth's radio frequencies, and plans to use this to lure the Irregulars into a trap, in a region called the Bandli Wastes. After giving the order for radio silence to her battalion, Snord takes the bait and reveals herself to Olesko. She tells Olesko that her Highlander is equipped with Star League tech that allows her to easily access the frequencies of the Fifth. Unbeknownst to Snord, Olesko's unit has been preparing the trap in the meantime, planting mines and sensor scammers throughout the area and positioning the forces in hidden positions. Certain of having finally evened the odds, Olesko awaits the upcoming battle.
