Planetary History

Early History

Prior to the discovery of mineral resources, Irurzun was a beautiful world. With the presence of these resources and the Combine's traditional mining techniques, it remains unclear if the pleasant views will remain intact.[1]

Succession Wars

Irurzun contains a great deal of metal ores, gemstones, and radioactive materials. In 3025 this led the High Command to station the 3rd and 6th Benjamin Regulars on the world, supported by three regiments of conventional infantry. The High Command suspected that the MIIO and DMI placed agents on the world, which led to a higher than average ISF presence.[1]

Post-Jihad Era

Irurzun continued to serve as a prefecture capital after the Jihad, although the planetary garrison normally associated with a prefecture capital had been redistributed years before, first to fight the Word of Blake and then to hunt down Black Dragon Society cells across the Combine.[2]

Irurzun continued to be an important world in both command and logistical terms, as well as an important source of valuable minerals. This led to speculation that Irurzun's location and lack of a significant garrison would draw attacks from the Federated Suns; New Samarkand Metals had continued mining operations on Irurzun despite the lack of shipping in the region, leading to a huge backlog of processed and unprocessed materiel stored across the planet awaiting transport to industrial sites elsewhere within the Combine.[2]

Geography

Irurzun has three major continents, named South Umbrian, North Umbrian and Easter. The planetary capital, New Gotham City, is located on South Umbrian.[2]
