History[edit]

Ishmael Stroud lost his eldest son, Ravid Stroud, when the JumpShip taking him on a diplomatic mission to the Magistracy of Canopus mis-jumped and never arrived. He exhausted every resource to find or learn what happened to him. After ten years without contact, Baron Stroud received a new lead from a Capellan merchant vessel that had recently passed through the region where the JumpShip disappeared. The merchant detected signs of habitation on a planet previous thought uninhabited but did not investigate out of fear of stumbling upon pirates.[1]

Baron Stroud enlisted the services of a mercenary company to follow up on this new information and check out settlements on Watermael and Gouderak, content with ridding the FWL of outlaws and criminals if that's all they should find. Photographic evidence from the destroyed facilities revealed they had belonged to a pirate band known as "Ravid's Reckoning," led by none other than his own son. Initially refusing to believe it, assuming he was brainwashed or it was merely an imposter using his name, Baron Stroud implored the mercenaries to bring the leader to justice, capturing him if possible. Unfortunately, Ravid would be killed in the attack on his Vakarel base. Logbooks and journals found among the ruins of the bases filled in the gaps and give the baron the closure he had sought, revealing how such a kind and even-tempered man could become a cruel and brutal pirate as a result of the nonlethal toxin in the water made them increasingly paranoid and violent.[1]
