Sterling did not let anyone, even many amongst the O5P, know her first name. Surrounded in mystery, it was believed the Duchess Katana Tormark loyalist Sterling was raised by second generation Pillarines, which explained her skill as a MechWarrior and in a Chinese poison hand martial art technique.[1] As of 3133, Sterling served in a Neophyte Pursuit Lance, under the command of Miguel V. Her other Lancemates in this Scout Lance were Hitoshi Sato and Janina Lukic.[2]

In September 3135, Sterling participating in the fighting on Saffel, between Tormark's Dragon's Fury and the forces of her Draconis Combine rival Warlord Mitsura Sakamoto. Battling against overwhelming odds together with Wesley Parks, her 'Mech was accidently hit by friendly fire from behind by Parks during desperate fighting, which disabled her machine. Despite this setback, both Sterling and Parks survived this engagement to fight another day.[3]
