Description
The Javelin was first built in 2751. The 'Mech quickly gained a reputation as a sturdy and reliable scout 'Mech. Though the original factories that produced the Javelin are gone, the Federated Suns began producing the venerable 'Mech once more at Jalastar Aerospace in 3055. The Javelin weighs in at 30 tons but it has the maneuverability of lighter 'Mechs with a jumping distance of up to 180 meters. The Javelin does pay for this in the armor protection on its chassis, in some areas carrying armor weaker than the structure beneath. This drawback to the design does hamper it in pitched battle as the 'Mech cannot stand up to any degree of fire from a 'Mech heavier than it.
Armament
The Javelin carries a limited weapons array with two Arrowlite SRM-6 launchers and no backup weapons. This makes the Javelin highly reliant on good supply lines and can hamper the 'Mech if it is forced into guerilla combat. As a close support 'Mech, it is highly adept at swooping in and helping deliver the final blow, especially as its scattering missiles can exploit and cripple exposed systems.
Variants
- JVN-10F - The only Succession Wars variant, also known as the Fire Javelin, is the complete opposite of the 10N model as it removes both of the SRM-6 launchers in favor of four Medium Lasers.[1] BV (1.0) = 702, BV (2.0) = 835
- JVN-11N - The second version of the Javelin to carry the moniker of Fire Javelin this upgrade of the 10F mounts seven Medium Lasers. It uses double heat sinks to counter the massive amount of heat that they can build for a light 'Mech. An additional ton of Ferro-Fibrous armor increase the overall protection for the Javelin. This design was a field refit often seen after other units had cast off their old parts.[2] BV (2.0) = ???
- JVN-10P - The 10P model is an upgrade of the 10N model. The 10P retains the armor and speed profile of the 10N, removes one of the SRM-6 launchers and replaced it with two Streak SRM-2 launchers. BV (1.0) = 514, BV (2.0) = 590
- JVN-11B - The 11B is a scout design that replaces the missiles launchers with twin SRM-4s so that it can mount a Beagle Active Probe and Guardian ECM Suite. Additional Ferro-Fibrous armor gives the 11B more than a forty percent increase in protection. The inclusion of CASE necessitated dropping the jump jets. An upgrade to double heat sinks provides ample coverage. BV (2.0) = ???
- JVN-11D - The Javelin 11D model is an upgrade of the 10F. The engine has been upgraded to an extralight model and the structure has been replaced with an Endo Steel internal structure. The Javelin carries three ER Medium Lasers and two Medium Pulse Lasers. These are mated to an advanced Targeting Computer as well as a C3 slave unit. BV (1.0) = 977, BV (2.0) = 1,104
- JVN-11F - The most recent variant removes the weapons and equipment of the 11D to carry a Snub-Nose PPC. It is supplemented by two trios of Machine Guns, each linked to a Machine Gun Array. This low-heat model is devastating to unarmored infantry. BV (2.0) = ???
