Jon Roberson was, as of 3132, a technician and MechWarrior in the 21st Centauri Lancers, known for designing the OPO-3 Opossum MOD.[2]

Drawn by the tales of adventure in holovid dramas about mercenaries, Roberson had a lifelong dream of becoming a MechWarrior. However, a childhood disease left his nervous system damaged, and even with medication, his random spasms kept him from qualifying for BattleMech training. Roberson settled for IndustrialMech piloting and found a position as a technician in the 21st Centauri Lancers, piloting an Opossum SalvageMech.[1]
In 3131, Roberson persuaded his officers to allow a modification to his 'Mech, adding a light AC/2. This quickly proved effective. In its first deployment, defending against a raid on Issaba by the Rim Territories, Roberson retrieved his commander's vehicle under fire, disabling several raider vehicles in the process. A May 3132 joint Oriente-Republic operation on Ventabren, in which he extracted salvage while fending off unmarked attackers, brought him and his MOD media and government attention, leading to the standardization of Roberson's unique design. Further successes earned him a promotion from lance technician to a full post in Captain Chak Rasbid's light support lance shortly before it was deployed to Towne.[2]
