Justin Leabo was the commanding officer of the Eleventh Avalon Hussars as of 3050.[2]

History[edit]

Hauptmann General Leabo, serving with the Eleventh Avalon Hussars, was stationed on Kesai IV in 3050 and on Brockway by 3062.[2][3] Although born New Syrtis, Leabo was a staunch supporter of Archon Katherine Steiner-Davion. While studying at the Warrior's Hall, Leabo gained a reputation for being able to predict and counter the moves of his opponents and, as commander of the Eleventh Avalon, proved that this skill translated to the political field by dominating the pro-Victor Marquess Leon Therese of Brockway. When the Lexington Combat Group arrived on Brockway in force towards the end of 3062, Leabo recognized the potential threat the pro-Victor mercenaries posed to his unit and began preparations for imminent hostilities.[3]

Civil War[edit]

Fighting between Leabo's Eleventh Avalon and the Lexington mercenaries began on 11 December, 3062 after a mechanized infantry company from the Eleventh Avalon Hussars attempted to secure a rail bridge connecting two Hussars-controlled regions of the planet. Finding a detachment of Lexington troops already guarding the bridge, a tense stand-off soon turned into a bloody route for the Eleventh Avalon infantrymen, beginning a planetary cold war. Leabo, not wanting his unit to be destroyed by the smaller but more experienced mercenaries, contented himself with ranged attacks and small skirmishes until any weaknesses in the mercenaries' positions appeared.[4]

Eventually, both mercenaries and Hussars realized that reinforcements would not be coming any time soon and true, open conflict on Brockway began on 26 February 3063. A diversionary aerospace maneuver from most of the Lexington Combat Group drew Leabo's eyes away from the mercenary regiment sneaking its way towards the Hussars' base in the Whiteville area and the resulting combined 'Mech/DropShip assault seriously punished Leftenant General Ayse Crosby's units. After another two months of hit-and-run attacks, the mercenaries utilized combat drop tactics to hit the city of Freddendal and take it from the Hussars, although Duke George Hasek's new policy of refusing to supply combative units in the Capellan March forced the mercenaries to begin a more traditional ground campaign. Despite not playing to the unit's strengths, this ground campaign succeeded in pushing the Eleventh Avalon back by another seven hundred kilometers, forcing Leabo to pull his troops off-planet and announce an official cease-fire with the Lexington mercenaries.[5]

Entering combat again on New Syrtis during the fifth wave of the Civil War, Leabo's failed attack on Duke Hasek's command center lead to a reciprocal strike against the Eleventh Avalon's command post on 21 January 3066. The combined efforts of the Eighth Syrtis Fusiliers' undersea approach and the Vanguard Legion's orbital strike destroyed the command post, killed Hauptmann General Justin Leabo, and terminally unraveled the Eleventh Avalon Hussars.[1]
