Kendra Slavoski was a Free Worlds League Military officer who fought in the Word of Blake Jihad as part of Stone's Coalition.[1]

Jihad Era[edit]
Kendra was native to the planet Cole Harbour and became a militia corporal. Her aunt gave her a BattleMech, but as her family could not afford to pay to send her to an academy, she studied on her own. By 3078, she was twenty-three years old and had managed to reach the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and command the Third Cole Harbour Support Battalion.[1]
On 22 January, she attended a meeting with Duchess Alys Rousset-Marik on Hsien. The Duchess informed those present about the arrival of two regiments from the Capellan Confederation on planet. The Capellans refused to talk, attacking Stone's Coalition Task forces and the Blakists, as well. Among those present was Star Colonel John Lassenerra, commanding officer of the Eleventh Mechanized Cavalry, which had been held in reserve. Intrigued, Kendra had been looking for him. The duchess ordered the colonel to attack the Capellans' most elite unit, the Fourth Tau Ceti Rangers, and crush them, killing as many as he could until she ordered him to stop, to force the Capellans to negotiate. The Clanners viewed that unit, descendants of one of the SLDF units which hadn't joined Operation EXODUS, as traitors, and were happy to obey.[1]
Later, Alys presented Kendra to Lassenerra; as his Cluster was low on auxiliaries, the duchess wanted to reinforce it with Kendra's battalion. John began testing Kendra's competence before departing on a hoverbike. Then, Alys approached Kendra again. She ordered the youngster to keep an eye on the stubborn Horses commander, being Alys's eyes, ears and conscience between them. Kendra promised to do it, before following the Star Colonel in her 'Mech.[1]
Once in the Horses' Mobile HQ, Kendra reported to the Star Colonel, and she was welcomed by another officer, Nova Captain Ernesto Ravenwater, who introduced her to Point Commander Amanda, the coregn, logistical officer of the Cluster. She began testing Kendra's abilities immediately, and Kendra passed. When the lieutenant suggested using the Cluster's ProtoMech Star, Lassenerra told her that he wanted to keep it hidden from the Rangers so that they wouldn't know of its existence. John's tone was serious, implying he didn't believe Kendra would be up to the task. After being dismissed, the lieutenant spoke to Amanda, giving her several suggestions. The Horses officer didn't appreciate them, so Kendra had to resolve their problems in a Circle of Equals. There, she easily defeated Amanda, taking command of logistics for the Cluster.[1]
Soon after, the commanding officer of the Rangers, Sang-shao Daniel Jax, contacted the Horses and the two leaders discussed the terms of the engagement, exchanging threats. The Capellan commander was so sure of his victory that he left only his MASH units out of the battle. Kendra correctly guessed his intention to attack the Horses' rear to capture supplies and technicians, and she shared it with Lassenerra. Later, she spoke with Ernesto, discussing the Horses' force disposition. The Star Colonel ordered her to go with him, to see how she fought in a 'Mech.[1]
When preparing to the battle, Lassenerra was suspicious of Kendra's old cooling vest, and she had to confess her lack of formal training. The Star Colonel agreed to let her stay with the unit but promised to send her back to the duchess after the battle. After the Horses began moving onto a ridge, the Star Colonel gave Kendra orders for artillery use in the battle, and congratulated her about her careful disposition of the support units; she was overjoyed by his compliment.
During the battle, Kendra directed the artillery, following Lassenerra's instructions. Using her 'Mech, she managed to cripple a Demolisher tank. When the Capellans retreated and the Horses pursued them, Kendra saw the Clanners weren't taking prisoners. Her plea to the Star Colonel succeeded, and he ordered the capture of those Rangers who surrendered.[1]
After the battle, the Star Colonel gave Kendra a cooling suit. She had barely put it on when Ravenwater approached her. He offered to couple with her, but Kendra answered that she wasn't interested in males, then discovered something strange. Both were attacked by a couple of Capellan Battlefield Infiltration Units. They wounded Ernesto, but Kendra managed to disarm and kill both, bandaging Ravenwater, saving his life. She threw up after the battle, shocked by her first kills. As a trophy, the Star Colonel let Kendra keep the commandos' pair of vibroswords and needlers.[1]
During the Horses' final assault on the Rangers' landing zone, Kendra was appalled when she saw an Overlord DropShip blow up under the Clanners' aerospace attack. Later, she assisted in downing a Capellan Men Shen. The Rangers were crushed, and their commander began hailing Lassenerra, but the Horses ignored it, focused on slaughtering every Ranger. Kendra had to save a Lao Hu pilot, and again appealed to the Star Colonel to stop the killing, making an appeal to his honor; Lassenerra accepted, ordering a cease fire. Kendra then realized she had won the Horses' respect.[1]
In a later meeting with Duchess Alys along with the Star Colonel, on the 24th, both were congratulated for their work. Lassenerra pretended he'd never had said anything about wanting to return Kendra to the duchess. The Lieutenant, after Alys offered her a place on her staff, refused; she still needed to learn a lot more, and she wanted to learn from the best – and, for her, those were the Horses.[1]
