Planetary History

Founding

Originally discovered shortly after the fall of the Terran Alliance, Kikuyu was first colonized by New Zealanders, Australians, and Tasmanians. They found a world with a large continent (named Queensland) which was home to the Great Victorian Desert. Around this large desert continent were two large archipelagos. The Great Victorian Desert was the reason the planet was settled, or rather, what was under the desert was the reason: Large amounts of radioactive ores and rare metals.[1]

The two archipelagos were set up as independent nation states, one settled by New Zealanders and one by Tasmanians. One is named Auckland Archipelago while the other is named New Tasmania.[1]

Reunification War

By the end of the Age of War Kikuyu was a part of the Apollo Province of the Rim Worlds Republic.[3] In 2584 civil war had been raging within the Rim Worlds Republic for nine years, fought between supporters of First Consul Gregory Amaris and supporters of the Rim Provisional Government, and Kikuyu was the garrison posting of the First Amaris Dragoons. The First Dragoons had lapsed into sectarian violence against each other, an internecine conflict sparked by the divided loyalties expressed within the Dragoons; when the Star League Defense Force launched the second wave of planetary campaigns as a part of Operation MAILED FIST, the Star League intervention in the civil war to restore Gregory Amaris to power, the internal conflict within the First Dragoons led the SLDF to believe that the conquest of Kikuyu would be a relatively short and easy affair.[44]

The SLDF assigned the Sixteenth Mechanized Infantry Division from VI Corps to the attack on Kikuyu; the Sixteenth landed on Kikuyu in March 2584 to begin combat operations, only to discover that their presence united the disparate elements of the First Dragoons by providing them with a common cause. Aided by irregulars raised from the civilian population, the heavily outnumbered First Dragoons turned the battle for Kikuyu into an extended campaign that didn't end until January 2585, almost a year after the initial landings. Casualties were high on both sides; the Rim Worlds losses amounted to thirty thousand people in total, two-thirds of whom were people who had joined the irregular formations that rose up after the SLDF landing. The Sixteenth had suffered two and a half thousand fatalities and another five and a half thousand injuries before the weary division finally secured the planet.[45]

Star League Era

Kikuyu was conquered by the Lyran Commonwealth during the 2773-2775 Republic-Commonwealth War.[13]

FedCom Civil War

The Sixth Donegal Guards was expelled by Clan Jade Falcon forces in 3064[28] along the supporting mercenary unit The Dioscuri. There they faced Delta Galaxy during the Jade Falcon Incursion and managed to hold their ground for two weeks despite the unit being badly mauled before most of the Sixth was ordered to redeploy elsewhere.[29][30][31]

Jihad

In 3076 the Lyran Alliance raided Kikuyu. Of note was a Snow Fox 3 operating with a Star of light OmniMechs, presumably captured in the Harvest Trials.[46]

The Dark Age

In the early years after the Jihad the Lyran Alliance invaded both Kikuyu and the nearby world of Newtown Square, provoking an aggressive response from Clan Jade Falcon and the counterinvasion of Mogyorod, Clermont and Machida by the Jade Falcon Epsilon Galaxy[47] in 3080.[48]
