Planetary Info

Kirei Na Niwa ("Beautiful garden" in Japanese) is a world whose economy is largely based on agriculture. The broad plains and fertile soil allow many crops to be grown here. In addition, the climate is mild enough that the inhabitants can grow crops year round, making it a very productive world.[1]

The world's location and lack of interest to raiders led to the production of a small manufacturing concern in the Needle mountains. The plant produces conventional fighters for the DCMS.[1]

Planetary History

Early History

After the annexation of Sverdlovsk in 2303 by armed forces from the Alliance of Galedon, Director Shiro Kurita began aggressively inducting other worlds into his Alliance. Some were conquered through military force; others were persuaded or intimidated into joining. Kirei Na Niwa was one of the worlds that was inducted into the Alliance, and as a result was subject to the policies of Director Kurita; this included a requirement to provide a percentage of the population as conscripts to New Samarkand for induction into the armed forces of the Alliance of Galedon. Kirei Na Niwa would come to stand as an unfortunate example to the other worlds of the Alliance when it missed the quota of inductees one year by less than a score of people. Acting under orders from his brother, Urizen Kurita staged mass executions on Kirei Na Niwa until exactly twice the percentage of people required for military conscription had been slain.[2]

Third Succession War

In 2950 the aircraft manufacturer Kinkakuji Enterprises formed, with its headquarters located in the city of Newton on Kirei Na Niwa. The result of a merger between two other conventional aircraft manufacturers, Kinkakuji quickly gained a significant share of the market with the production of three ugly but rugged interplanetary transport airliners, before branching into areas such as the production of luxury conventional aircraft for the nobility of the Draconis Combine. One of the keys to the success of Kinkakuji was the extensive testing all of the company designs underwent at their plant - a plant located on a large plain near Newton and prone to severe and unpredictable storms born in the nearby needle-like mountains. This testing under adverse conditions allowed Kinkakuji to design and develop very reliable designs.[37]

The Jihad

On the 12th of May 3081 the younger son of Coordinator Hohiro Kurita, Vincent Kurita, married Lady Ramiko Nishimura, daughter of an influential family from Kirei Na Niwa. The wedding was held on the family estate on Kirei Na Niwa, but was a small, private ceremony. Lady Nishimura was attended by her sisters Yukio and Akiko, while Vincent was accompanied by his brother Shinjiro Kurita and his cousin Kitsune Kurita.[38]
