Laura Hamilton was the commanding officer of the Mayetta PDZ as of 3067.[1]
History[edit]
Hauptmann-General Hamilton, serving under Marshal Melford Dennis, was executive officer of the Federated Commonwealth's Raman PDZ in 3050.[2] By 3062, now-General Hamilton commanded the Forty-first Avalon Hussars and was stationed on Benet III in 3062. A skilled administrator and trainer, Hamilton was responsible for successfully turning the academy graduates and bitter veterans of the Forty-First Avalon into a proper fighting unit. Her connections in the Armed Forces of the Federated Commonwealth, namely those she created while serving as the deputy commander of the Raman PDZ, allowed her to build the Forty-first long after Archon Katherine Steiner-Davion closed down her lines of communication. Though an unrivaled organizer, Hamilton's actual combat skills were lacking, and as such the presence of the quick-thinking Leftenant General Julius Gramstad was critical for the Forty-first's functions.[3]
Civil War[edit]
The Federated Commonwealth Civil War came to Benet III and the Forty-first Avalon Hussars on 5 December, 3062. Following the death of Arthur Steiner-Davion and the claims of the Forty-first's senior officers that the Archon was to blame, the commander of the Fifth Donegal Guards (also stationed on Benet III) was told to enact martial law. The authority of the Fifth Donegal was not recognized by the Forty-first Avalon and they quickly took to the field in a series of indecisive engagements, mainly resulting from both units being spread across the planet at various key positions instead of in concentrated, easily-maneuvered forces. A series of blunders on the part of the Fifth Donegal's commander allowed Gramstad's forces to strike directly at the Fifth's headquarters, although a counter-attack from the Fifth prevented Gramstad from holding any of the ground he'd taken. The Forty-first's hopes of victory were crushed on the 22nd day of December when, utilizing combat dropped 'Mechs and infantry, the Fifth Donegal entrapped Gramstad and killed or injured 70% of the Forty-first's combat formation before taking General Hamilton captive the next day.[4]
Post-Civil War[edit]
Living out the rest of the Civil War as a prisoner, Hamilton was eventually released and promoted to the rank of Marshal, serving as commander of the Mayetta PDZ by 3067.[1]
