Description[edit]

The Leviathan III-class Heavy Battleship is a large WarShip design built by Clan Ghost Bear during the late Dark Age era. Begun in the 3130s in secret after the events of Gray Monday, the ship was built using the lessons learned from the violent battles of the Jihad. Like previous Leviathan-class ships, the Leviathan III still carries incredibly heavy armor and weaponry.

Constructed at the shipyards orbiting Alshain, the ship is geared for space superiority in mind, with an increased number of docking hardpoints in comparison to past Leviathan designs. It features a rare mobile HPG and carries a cluster of aerospace fighters for air support for ground force as well as screening the ship from enemy spacecraft.

The alleged operational status as of 3150 is uncertain due to the secrecy of the project. Republic of the Sphere military reports note that Clan Ghost Bear are working with the Raven Alliance in their efforts to build the ship and other assets to support it.[2]

Armament[edit]

The Leviathan III mounts both capital-grade and conventional weapons, allowing the vessel to destroy larger targets, but also defend itself from aerospace fighters. In comparison to past designs, the Leviathan III had its firepower refocused on longer ranged capital weaponry. Sub-capital missiles in the form of Stingray missiles had been added, while a number of anti-missile systems had been increased, with an addition of newer laser-based AMS as part of the lessons learned during the Jihad.[2]

Nose-Mounted Weapons Bays[edit]

Capital weaponry: 2 heavy naval Gauss rifles (w/200 rounds), 4 Heavy Naval Grade PPCs, 3 Class-30 Naval Autocannon (w/300 Rounds), 2 AR-10 Capital Missile Launcher (25 Killer Whales, 50 White Shark, and 100 Barracuda Capital Missiles), and 12 Class-55 Naval Lasers.

Conventional weaponry: 8x Gauss rifles (600 rounds), 10x ER large lasers with 10x medium lasers, 5x large pulse lasers with 5x medium pulse lasers, 5x 20-tube long range missile launchers with Artemis V FCS (with 504 rounds), 5x Type 12 advanced tactical missile launchers (w/ 1,000 rounds), 5x anti-missile systems (with 1,008 rounds) and 5x laser anti-missile systems.

Front Left/Right Sides[edit]

Conventional weaponry: 10x ER medium lasers, 5x medium pulse lasers, 6x 20-tube long range missile launchers with Artemis V FCS (with 600 rounds), 5x Type 12 advanced tactical missile launchers (w/ 600 rounds), 5x anti-missile systems (with 1,008 rounds) and 5x laser anti-missile systems.

Left/Right Broadside Bays[edit]

Capital weaponry: 2 heavy naval Gauss rifles (w/200 rounds), 2 separate weapon bays with 12 Class-55 Naval Lasers in each, and 2 separate Sub-Capital Weapons bays of 3 Stingray Missile launchers (with 150 missile per bay).

Conventional weaponry: 5 ER PPCs (With PPC Capacitors), 10 ER Large Lasers, 5 Large Pulse Lasers with 5 Medium Pulse Lasers, 9 20-tube LRM Launchers guided by Artemis V Fire Control Systems (w/ 900 rounds), 9 ATM-12 Launchers (w/900 rounds).

Aft Left/Right Sides[edit]

Capital weaponry: Class-20 Naval Autocannon (w/300 rounds), 12 Class-55 Naval Lasers, and AR-10 Launcher (25 Killer Whales, 50 White Sharks, and 100 Barracuda Capital Missiles).

Conventional weaponry: 10x ER medium lasers, 5x medium pulse lasers, 6x 20-tube LRM launchers guided by Artemis V fire control systems (w/ 600 rounds), 6x ATM-12 launchers (w/600 rounds), 5x anti-missile systems (with 1,008 rounds) and 5x laser anti-missile systems.

Notes[edit]

  • As of this writing, it is unclear what is the actual name of the Leviathan III, aside from its class variant name. Also, it is uncertain if more of this ship class has been produced beyond the reported first ship.
  • The Leviathan III also has the unique status of being the only known "new" Inner Sphere–based WarShip class to be constructed since the mid- to late-thirty-first century.
