Description

The Leviathan III-class Heavy Battleship is a large warship design built by Clan Ghost Bear during the late Dark Age era. Begun in the 3130s in secret after the events of Gray Monday, the ship was built using the lessons learned from the violent battles of the Jihad. Like previous Leviathan-class ships, the Leviathan III still carries incredibly heavy armor and weaponry.

Constructed at the shipyards orbiting Alshain, the ship is geared for space superiority in mind, with an increased number of docking hardpoints in comparison to past Leviathan designs. It features a rare mobile HPG and carries a cluster of aerospace fighters for air support for ground force as well as screening the ship from enemy spacecraft.

The alleged operational status as of 3150 is uncertain due to the secrecy of the project. Republic of the Sphere military reports note that Clan Ghost Bear are working with the Raven Alliance in their efforts to build the ship and other assets to support it.[2]

Armament

The Leviathan III mounts both capital-grade and conventional weapons, allowing the vessel to destroy larger targets, but also defend itself from aerospace fighters. In comparison to past designs, the Leviathan III has its firepower refocused on longer ranged capital weaponry. Sub-Capital Missiles in form of Stingray Missiles have been added, while a number of Anti-Missile Systems have been increased with an addition of newer laser-based AMS as part of the lessons learned during the Jihad.[2]

Nose-Mounted Weapons Bays

Capital weaponry: 2 Heavy Naval Gauss Rifles (w/200 Rounds), 4 Heavy Naval Grade PPCs, 3 Class-30 Naval Autocannon (w/300 Rounds), 2 AR-10 Capital Missile Launcher (25 Killer Whales, 50 White Shark, and 100 Barracuda Capital Missiles), and 12 Class-55 Naval Lasers.

Conventional weaponry: 8 Gauss Rifles (600 rounds), 10 ER Large Lasers with 10 Medium Lasers, 5 Large Pulse Lasers with 5 Medium Pulse Lasers, 5 20-Long-Range Missile Launchers+Artemis V FCS (with 504 rounds), 5 Type 12 Advanced Tactical Missile Launchers (w/ 1,000 rounds), 5-Anti-Missile Systems (with 1,008 rounds) and 5 Laser Anti-Missile Systems.

Notes

  • The Record Sheet for the Leviathan III-class Heavy Battleship was only released in Experimental Technical Readout: Republic, Volume 3.
  • As of this writing, it is unclear what is the actual name of the Leviathan III, aside from its class variant name. Also, it is uncertain if more of this ship class has been produced beyond the reported first ship.
  • The Leviathan III also has the unique status of being the only known "new" Inner Sphere based WarShip-Class to be constructed since the mid to late 31st Century.
