Maeve Stirling was a Republic of the Sphere and Northwind Highlanders military leader in the thirty-second century.

History[edit]

Maeve Stirling was the granddaughter of Andrea Stirling, a notable Highlander officer and also one of the founding leaders of the Republic. She grew on Northwind, where, with eight years, she knew Seamus Casey, a Highlander veteran. In a 'Mech simulation, he lose to him. In an unknown date, prior to 3150, she was on Callison, where she met with Northwind's ruler, Countess Tara Campbell. Then, she or the Exarch Devlin Stone sent her to Northwind, as there were clues than pointed than the Capellan Confederation was to invade the planet. She arrived there some date, and stayed there for some time, until the 28 October 3150. When her DropShip, carrying a full company of advanced BattleMechs, arrived, she boarded it before officially arrive to Northwind.[1]

On a conclave with the Highlanders' elders, she meet with Seamus again, and also with his grandson, Declan Casey. The same day, Declan had won a combat exercise against overwhelming odds. After telling the few she knew about the threat and calm the Highlanders' fears about the Republic abandoning them, she took Declan with her to talk in private in the woods. She had read his file and clearly was interested in him, but Declan, a naturally suspicious young, proved his mistrust towards the Republic, but also his cunning, as he guessed a lot of Maeve's past actions. When he suggested than she may be working for Damien Redburn, former Exarch, both almost hurt each other with their knifes. However, both eventually calmed and talked. She admitted she had lied about several things, and offered to recruit him for her new company, and also, in secret, to search for a possible traitor amid the Highlanders. He accepted the offer.[2]

The 13 November, Maeve went to Plunkett's tavern, a local very popular on Tara, where she meet with Declan. Both had been investigating, but failed to find nothing. She said him more info about the traitor, but then they received an all-call: the Capellans have arrived.[3]

The 24 November, Maeve presided a meeting at the Fort, where she interrogated Declan Casey about an unknown 'Mech force with Highlanders' colors than the day before had appeared in several battlefields, turning the tide of the battle. Then, Major Seamus Casey and Colonel Michael Griffin arrived, explaining than they were the leading officers of the Grey Watch, a secret highlander regiment. After the meeting had ended, Declan boarded her, pointing than her grandmother had to have been behind the Watch's 'mechs hidden, and than she had knew the Watch's existence much before, and she hade to admit she was right... again.[4]

After Tara Campbell arrived with reinforcements, the 27 November, Maeve assisted to a meeting of officers at the Castle, and later gave words of comfort to highlanders which had lost friends or family in the battle.[5]

The 5 December, after Combine reinforcements had arrived, Maeve assisted to another officers' gathering to decide what to do. Later, on 9 December, she led a counterattack against the Capellan forces attacking Tara, but not before giving another Mech to Declan, which fought at her side.[6] The same day, she led a counterattack to retake Tara's HPG's station, later fighting the defense against Capellan counterattacks.[7]

The 10 December, she talked with Declan again, offering him his condolences and informing her than the bulk of the highlanders soon will depart to Terra. He offered her to go with her unit, but she refused, saying him she counted with him to keep Northwind safe.[8]

A day later, Maeve was on a DropShip, where she interrogated a Kuritan prisoner, but he was, in reality, a Ghost Knight, and they talked and drank together before each one going at his way.[9]

IlClan Era[edit]

Maeve fought at the Battle of Terra and returned to Northwind first, along with Lady Cadha Jaffray, carrying the news of the defeat, along with a message from the Ghost Paladin Emil, which freed the Highlanders from their Covenant with the Republic. Both were welcomed back to Northwind.[10]
