Marotta Kerensky was a trueborn MechWarrior of Clan Wolf during the mid-thirty-second century.

History

Born as a trueborn of Clan Wolf, during the formation of Wolf Empire, Marotta fought in at least four battles, but only against the Lyran Commonwealth, distinguishing himself. Later he won a Trial of Position obtaining the rank of Star Captain.[1]

On planet Zosma he won a Kerensky Bloodname in 3149, after a duel in a desert. Marotta easily defeated his opponent, a female warrior named Frenz, by goading her with subtle taunts; using her own aggressiveness and the heat to overheat her 'Mech, a Timber Wolf. The Wolf Khan Alaric Ward assisted in the Trial, and felt impressed by Marotta's cunning and calmness.[2]

The next year, on New Earth, the Khan assigned a task to Marotta: to oversee the plan the imminent battle for Terra. Marotta did not think the Wolves can take and hold Terra against the other Clans... specifically the biggest threat: Clan Jade Falcon. Marotta had studied a lot about history, and his suggestion to obtain more troops, armed and trained, was unexpected, at least: convince the mercenary group of Wolf's Dragoons, ancient Wolf Clan descendants, to return with his Clan or at least fight alongside them.[3] Khan Ward not only accepted his proposal: he also sent him to recruit the Dragoons. During the trip, Marotta learned the arts of diplomacy and negotiations with a Merchant Caste member named Byrne. When Marotta arrived at Parma, in Draconis Combine space, he found a difficult situation. The Dragoons had been working loyally for the Kuritans but the relations between both were worsening, in part due to the disdain the Kuritans feel for mercenaries.

Marotta received a mixed reception: the Dragoons showed him great respect as a Wolf representative. Alaric's presents (a full company of brand-new BattleMechs) was accepted, but even his impressive negotiation skills were not initially enough to make his invitation to the Dragoons break contract with the Kuritans and join the battle of Terra. The Dragoon leader, General Thomas Brubaker refused to decide initially, but the leader of Gamma Regiment, Colonel Nicholas Crews agreed immediately. Brubaker and Crews have a dispute, because several of Crews' men had been arrested and put to in jail by the Kuritans, and the general relieved Crews of his command.[4] But this only precipitated things: Crews and his men decided to mutiny, leave the planet and join the battle of Terra. Marotta began helping them, and even helped lead the assault on the prison to liberate the Dragoons. These later took Marotta's 'Mechs and formed a new company, the Black Wolves Company. Marotta insisted on joining the imminent civil war with Brubaker's people, and Crews gave him a temporary place inside the Black Wolves, effectively joining the Dragoons.[5]

Marotta participated in the short but brutal battle against Brubaker's Dragoons, perfectly adopting the un-Clanlike Dragoons style of fighting. After Brubaker was defeated and captured, Marotta used his negotiation skills again to avoid a bigger Dragoons fight, and brokered a deal with Brubaker.

Later Marotta assisted a ceremony of Dragoons that were killed in the fighting. All the Dragoons would participate do so in time before their departure to Terra.[6]

Personality

Like many of the Kerensky bloodline, Marotta was an atypical Clan Warrior. First of all he clearly has the Kerensky Vision, a patience most Clanners lack. Also, he was very open minded, and did not distrust Freeborn or members of other castes. Instead he willingly accepted help or taught them when needed, and accepted his own limitations openly.[7]

Additionally he clearly likes history, and sometimes called himself a poet. His patience and open mind made him a formidable opponent, as he never appeared to lose his calm, would not let insults or provocations affect him and never rush blindly into a battle. He willingly changed his fighting style to fit his unit.[8]

BattleMechs

It is unknown what class of BattleMechs he piloted regularly, but in his Trial of Bloodright piloted a heavily customized White Raven and with the Dragoons he takes a brand new Dominator.[9]
