Mathias's Forlorn Hope was a mercenary unit of unspecified size and composition. Implicitly working for the Federated Suns, they were on rest and recovery assignment on McHenry in 3022, and were caught by surprise when Hamilton's Cavaliers of McCarron's Armored Cavalry attacked during the second wave of McCarron's Long March. Over two-thirds of Mathias's Forlorn Hope was destroyed while the survivors surrendered. They were obligated to hand-over four new Crusader 'Mechs to the attackers in exchange for their freedom.[1]
