Captain Michael Vanduesen was a member of Beta Regiment of Wolf's Dragoons during the early thirty-first century.[1]

History[edit]

Early Career[edit]

Vanduesen, who considered himself a descendant of ancient Dutch sailors, was reputed to be fast, strong and physically striking. Brave and reckless, he was always ready to plunge into the thick of the action, being repeatedly wounded for his trouble. His aggressiveness earned both recognition as well as criticism, especially from more level-headed Dragoons such as Beta Regiment's Colonel Andrei Shostokovitch, who did not believe a Company commander should take unnecessary risks.

As of early 3028, Vanduesen was serving as the commander of Vanduesen's Company of Baker Battalion. Following the Battle of Misery, Vanduesen became commander of Beta Regiment's Third Provisional Company, as part of which he went on to fight in the Battle of Wapakoneta.

Wapakoneta[edit]

On Wapakoneta the prior criticisms he had received did not dampen his enthusiasm for battle, with his reckless bravery remaining on display during his last engagement, where he and his company lost their lives in the process of eliminating twenty-five Kuritan fighters.[1]

This engagement started with Vanduesen's company being assigned to monitor the progress of the construction of an airfield near New Wisconsin from 17 September, by elements of the Third Proserpina Hussars and Twelfth Galedon Regulars. Once the airfield was completed and the aerospace fighters moved in, Vanduesen came up with an excellent plan, which ultimately only failed due to poor implementation. This plan comprised sending two of his lance away as a decoy to draw way Kurita defenders, while marching his own lance down the Sarola River to the airfield. However due to poor intelligence his lance emerged from the river ten kilometers from his target, not realizing his other two lances had already been destroyed, resulting in his lance's destruction in turn.[2][3]

BattleMech[edit]

Michael Vanduesen was known to pilot a Commando BattleMech.[1]
