The Star League
During the last years of the Star League, Nockatunga was considered a vital world.  If any hostilities were to break out between the Lyran Commonwealth and the Free Worlds League, many believed that Nockatunga would be the first place targeted by the Lyrans.

In an effort to discourage any hostilities, the SLDF positioned a second division, the 233rd Mechanized Infantry Division, on world after the "Birthday Proclamations" of 2755.

In May 3032, Colonel Wayne Waco of the Waco Rangers would issue a challenge to Cranston Snord and his Snord's Irregulars. Waco's unit had dug themselves in on Nockatunga and were holding a priceless set of 23rd Century Demmings cyrstal. Knowing the Snord's fondness for collecting antiques, Waco knew that the Irregulars would have to respond. If Cranston did not accept the challenge, Waco would destroy the crystal set. However, while Cranston enjoyed a duel, he would not lead his forces into a trap.

After careful planning, Cranston smuggled his forces onto Nockatunga via captured commercial Free Worlds League DropShips.  While Snord's usual DropShips maintained orbit around the planet, Snord tasked his infantry to secure the priceless crystal.  Once the infantry had secured the objective, Snord would order his orbiting empty DropShips to land on planet to draw the Rangers attention while the Irregulars left with their prize without fighting.  The plan was working perfectly until a Ranger scout discovered the Irregulars near the city of ThuleWaco then moved his command unit in to engage the Irregulars, but the majority of the Ranger's forces were too far away to assist.

The Irregulars were able to use the local terrain to their advantage and surround Waco's command unit.  After a short bloody fight, the Irregulars were victorious.  Cranston could have killed Waco, but decided to let him live with his defeat.  The Irregulars had secured the crystal and then left the planet without further complications.

The Jihad
+
The Jihad
Following the dissolution of the Free Worlds League in January 3079, elements within the Lyran Alliance moved to annex a number of former League worlds between August and September that year. Nockatunga was one of seven worlds conquered during this period, and the invasion only stopped when Archon Adam Steiner declared that any other bouts of what he termed "unauthorized adventurism" would be considered an act of treason. The Lyran assault on Nockatunga was a purely conventional attack in which the LAAF forces concentrated on defeating the defending 34th Marik Militia and local forces, although to limit any collateral damage the 34th had to withdraw. The capture of the primary spaceports on Nockatunga along with the planetary capital by the 4th Alliance Guards was completed during early September 3079. Nockatunga was one of two worlds where forces from the Duchy of Tamarind-Abbey and the Lyran Alliance faced each other in the immediate aftermath of the Jihad, with the other being Epsilon, which was conquered prior to Nockatunga. Prior to the Archon's declaration that any further attacks would be considered treasonable acts, diplomats from Tamarind and Abbey present on Tharkad were volubly protesting the attacks and Dominic Levaque, the Lyran ambassador to Tamarind, worked hard to reassure the Tamarind government that the attacks were being investigated and that any wrongdoing would result in prosecution under Lyran laws.

The Nockatunga system was home to at least one inhabited world and as of June 3152 was located within the Duchy of Tamarind-Abbey province in the Free Worlds League.[2]

System Description[edit]

The Nockatunga system was located near the Cavanaugh II and Millungera systems.[3]

System History[edit]

The Nockatunga system was colonized at some point prior to or during the early twenty-third century.[4]

Planetary History[edit]

The Star League[edit]

During the last years of the Star League, Nockatunga was considered a vital world. If any hostilities were to break out between the Lyran Commonwealth and the Free Worlds League, many believed that Nockatunga would be the first place targeted by the Lyrans.[32]

In an effort to discourage any hostilities, the SLDF positioned a second division, the 233rd Mechanized Infantry Division, on world after the "Birthday Proclamations" of 2755.[3]

Post Fourth Succession War[edit]

In May 3032, Colonel Wayne Waco of the Waco Rangers would issue a challenge to Cranston Snord and his Snord's Irregulars. Waco's unit had dug themselves in on Nockatunga and were holding a priceless set of 23rd Century Demmings cyrstal. Knowing the Snord's fondness for collecting antiques, Waco knew that the Irregulars would have to respond. If Cranston did not accept the challenge, Waco would destroy the crystal set. However, while Cranston enjoyed a duel, he would not lead his forces into a trap.[33]

The plan was working perfectly until a Ranger scout discovered the Irregulars near the city of Thule. Waco then moved his command unit in to engage the Irregulars, but the majority of the Ranger's forces were too far away to assist.[33]

The Irregulars were able to use the local terrain to their advantage and surround Waco's command unit. After a short bloody fight, the Irregulars were victorious. Cranston could have killed Waco, but decided to let him live with his defeat. The Irregulars had secured the crystal and then left the planet without further complications.[33]

The Jihad[edit]

Following the dissolution of the Free Worlds League in January 3079, elements within the Lyran Alliance moved to annex a number of former League worlds between August and September that year. Nockatunga was one of seven worlds conquered during this period, and the invasion only stopped when Archon Adam Steiner declared that any other bouts of what he termed "unauthorized adventurism" would be considered an act of treason.[25] The Lyran assault on Nockatunga was a purely conventional attack in which the LAAF forces concentrated on defeating the defending Thirty-fourth Marik Militia and local forces, although to limit any collateral damage the Thirty-fourth had to withdraw. The capture of the primary spaceports on Nockatunga along with the planetary capital by the Fourth Alliance Guards was completed during early September 3079. Nockatunga was one of two worlds where forces from the Duchy of Tamarind-Abbey and the Lyran Alliance faced each other in the immediate aftermath of the Jihad, with the other being Epsilon, which was conquered prior to Nockatunga. Prior to the Archon's declaration that any further attacks would be considered treasonable acts, diplomats from Tamarind and Abbey present on Tharkad were volubly protesting the attacks and Dominic Levaque, the Lyran ambassador to Tamarind, worked hard to reassure the Tamarind government that the attacks were being investigated and that any wrongdoing would result in prosecution under Lyran laws.[34]

Military Deployment[edit]

3059[edit]

 • Greenburg's Godzillas[39]

3079[edit]

- At this point in time, the Thirty-fourth Marik Militia were deployed across Epsilon and Nockatunga. The Thirty-fourth was at 70% of full strength.

3145[edit]

Planetary Locations[edit]

 • Fort Brittany - a Star League era fortification.[32]
 • Thule: city[33]
 • Tessra Hills: hilly area 12 kilometers from Thule; site of the battle between Waco's Rangers and Snord's Irregulars.[42]
