Description

Kallon Industries, famous for designing some of the most popular anti-aircraft 'Mechs in the Inner Sphere, designed the Partisan to bring those same capabilities onto a cheaper, more easily produced vehicle. Dedicated to destroying aircraft, its targeting systems can track up to 200 units at once, compute the optimal target, and link to the targeting systems to other Partisans in the unit. The targeting controls are even removable, allowing its crew to work from a safer distance.

While slow and lightly armored, its role tends to keep it in rearward locations, where this is less of a liability. The Partisan is deployed throughout the Inner Sphere, although most of them are found in the Free Worlds League and Federated Suns.

Weapons and Equipment

The Partisan's four turret-mounted Flak Autocannon/5s are supplied with two tons of airbursting shells that are optimized for destroying aircraft (see Flak ammunition). However, they prove more than capable at providing direct fire support when needed, and can even be used to shoot down enemy missiles.[3] Additionally, it carries twin Machine Guns for defense against infantry.

Variants

  • AC/2
An experiment at increasing its effectiveness, introduced in 3002 the AC/2 Partisan replaces the quad AC/5s with five Autocannon/2. BV (1.0) = 327[2], BV (2.0) = 580
  • LRM
Another attempt to improve the standard Partisan, this 3017 version replaces the autocannons with four LRM-15 launchers. BV (1.0) = 768[2], BV (2.0) = 1,021
  • Air Defense
The Partisan Air Defense Tank is a significant upgrade designed to engage and destroy Clan fighters. The older GM Superload ICE was replaced by a compact GM Super fusion engine. Its armor was replaced with advanced Kallon Unity Weave Ferro-Fibrous Armor, drastically increasing its protection. A C3 Slave Unit provides for better coordination with the rest of its unit, increasing accuracy. Finally, its weapons complement was replaced with twin Imperator Code Red LB 10-X ACs partnered with a pair of Imperator Smoothie Autocannon/2s for long range fire. BV (1.0) = 588 (C3: 130)[2], BV (2.0) = 923[4]
  • Lance Command
The 3058 lance command variant of the Partisan Air Defense Tank upgrades the C3 slave unit to a C3 Master unit. To make room for this upgrade, the twin Imperator Code Reds were replaced with a pair of Ultra AC/5s. BV (1.0) = 503 (C3: 105)[2], BV (2.0) = 836
  • Company Command
The company command variant of the Partisan Air Defense Tank fits two C3 master units inside its hull. It drops the twin Smoothie ACs to make room for these complex systems. BV (1.0) = 585 (C3: 104)[2], BV (2.0) = 920
  • RAC
Mounting a pair each of Rotary AC/5s and LB 2-X ACs, the 3067 RAC variant of the Partisan is able to pump out a significant amount of gunfire in a short amount of time. It also adds another ton of armor for increase durability. BV (1.0) = ??, BV (2.0) = ??
  • XL
The XL variant of the Partisan utilized an ultra compact 240 GM XL engine, freeing up considerable space. Mounting twelve tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor, twin LB 10-X ACs, and twin Ultra AC/2s, the only stumbling block seems to be its hefty price tag. BV (1.0) = 712 (C3: 143)[2] BV (2.0) = 1,171
  • Quad RAC
This 3069 variant also uses an XL engine, but mounts four Rotary AC/2s, a Targeting Computer, and a C3 Slave unit to trade targeting data. The armor protection has been increased by nearly 45% over the base XL variant.[5] BV (2.0) = 1,296
  • Fuel Cell (AC)
This version of the Partisan uses an advanced Fuel Cell engine in place of the standard ICE. The weapons complement has also changed, carrying a pair of LB 10-X ACs and two AC/2s. For close in defense, this version of the Partisan carries a pair of Machine Guns and a single Anti-Missile System. A C3 Slave allows the Partisan to share targeting data. BV (2.0) = 980[6]
  • Fuel Cell (LRM)
Based on the standard LRM version, this variant of the Partisan carries four LRM-15s slaved to Artemis IV guidance systems. A Fuel Cell engine powers the tank, and like the Autocannon variant, this version carries a pair of Machine Guns, AMS, and C3 slave. BV (2.0) = 1,303[7]
  • Nike
This variant of the Partisan focuses on firepower rather than the command and coordination abilities of later models. By using less-expensive technology, customers who couldn't afford a Partisan still get a solid anti-aircraft platform. Using a modified support vehicle chassis, a Fuel Cell engine provides a top speed of 54 kp/h while thirteen tons of BAR 9 armor provides protection against most weaponry. Offensively, the Nike carries a pair of Light AC/2s and a pair of LB 5-X ACs with each weapon backed by a two ton ammunition bay. Due to the bulkier nature of some components the Nike weighs 90 tons - ten tons heavier than its inspiration. BV (2.0) = 688[9]
  • C3
Many militias during the FedCom Civil War who were unable to pay the much higher price tag for the upgraded Partisans modified their originals by removing the machine guns and adding in a CASE system to protect the crews from an ammunition explosion, while also installing a C3 slave to create a inexpensive C3 lance mate. To compensate for the obsolete weapons, militias invest in various special munitions, making the guns more accurate and powerful on the cheap. BV (2.0) = 662[4][10]
