Petru Hamlin was the commanding officer of the Twelfth and Fourteenth Lyran Regulars as of 2813.[1]

Colonel Hamlin, the senior officer of the Lyran Commonwealth forces garrisoning Bella I, was responsible for defending against a Free Worlds League invasion attempt during the First Succession War. The attacking forces, comprised of Colonel Wendon McGaines' Sixth and Eighth Regulan Hussars, arrived in 2813 and quickly began a disinformation campaign aimed at obfuscating their attack plans and reducing Lyran morale. Hamlin, led to believe that the two Regulan units were also joined by the Fifth and Sixth Free Worlds Guards, ordered the emergency evacuation of Bella I in the face of a seemingly overwhelming invader. Tasking all of his aerospace fighters and BattleMechs with defending the DropShips fleeing from the planet's primary spaceport, Hamlin allowed the Regulans to land uncontested before they quickly launched a reckless assault on the Lyran's positions. With Hamlin and his men believing that they faced only half of the forces the League had available, the Lyrans suffered a complete collapse of morale despite both sides taking a roughly equal number of casualties in the fighting.[1]
Hamlin finally realized he had been tricked when, as his troops were halfway out of the Bella system, the Fifth and Sixth Free Worlds Guards actually did arrive to support the already-successful Regulans. This epiphany occurred too late to change the outcome of the battle and Hamlin was demoted and removed from command of the Lyran Regulars before the end of the year.[1]
