Reinhardt Steiner was a Lyran Commonwealth noble and officer. He led the BattleMech regiment of the Tenth Lyran Guards through the FedCom Civil War and much of the Jihad.

History[edit]

Civil War[edit]

In 3062, Reinhardt was freshly promoted to the rank of Leftenant General and command of the 10th's 'Mech regiment at the age of 26. While he and his father supported Victor Steiner-Davion[3], Reinhardt's political leanings left him estranged from most of the extended Steiner family.[4] Katherine Steiner-Davion left the 10th stranded on Robinson without transport assets at the start of the war, and the unit spent several years trying to scrape together the JumpShips to leave the planet. By early 3065, though, the Guards had acquired the transport assets needed to join Prince Victor. But they learned the world of Kentares IV was under attack from Combine forces. Reinhardt's unit dropped to relieve the Kentares DMM, under heavy pressure from the 4th Benjamin Regulars. The DCMS troops held out for another week before calling for a stand-up battle. The fighting concluded when Reinhardt and Ian Dresari led their troops into a head-on fight with the Combine samurai. In the span of four hours, the 4th Benjamin Regulars was destroyed.[5] The Guards then departed to link up with Victor's task force.

Reinhardt followed Victor into the fighting on Tikonov in 3066, where the unit routed the 3rd Republican Guards and the Valexa CMM. Once the world was subdued, he joined the Allied leaders in planning the final assault on New Avalon.[6]

Along with the rest of the 10th, Reinhardt entered the New Avalon system on November 8, 3066.[7] His unit hit the Loyalists hard in the fighting for the world's Brunswick and Rostock continents before moving into Avalon City.[8] Reinhardt fought in the final push into the city alongside Victor, leading the RCT's first battalion into the field personally.[1]

Jihad[edit]

Reinhardt and the 10th stayed on station on New Avalon following the end of the Civil War, feeling that they had failed Yvonne Steiner-Davion in allowing her to be deposed.[9] He and his unit were therefore on the planet when the Word of Blake attacked at the start of the Jihad. Reinhardt was deep in the fighting, and by 3072 his reputation had grown so large that technician Robert Doucette expressed a desire to meet him, saying that "from all the stories around here, you'd swear he had single-handedly choked the Falcons and sent them running home to Kerensky." [10]

Unfortunately, Reinhardt's fighting skills were not quite on that level, as he was killed in a Blakist ambush on December 18, 3072. Though he was killed by a Wyvern punch to the cockpit, rumors rapidly began circulating that he fought a massive last stand not unlike Aidan Pryde, where he took down four enemy 'Mechs with nothing but his small laser.[11]

BattleMechs[edit]

Reinhardt piloted a captured Clan Masakari during the civil war. He typically used it in the C configuration.[12]

Legacy[edit]

Reinhardt's fame was enough to propel his son Rüdiger to notoriety, prior to Rüdiger's dramatic rescue of his sister.[2] Reinhardt's daughter Claudia, who inherited the planet Furillo, was recognized as a Grand Duchess[13], a title reserved for the most influential and noteworthy families in the Commonwealth.[14]
