Colonel Robert C. Fairchild was the commander of the 151st Light Horse Regiment ("Dark Horse Regiment"), and its Regimental Command Company ("Fairchild's Guards"), of the Eridani Light Horse from 3024.[1][2]

Fairchild was promoted to command the 151st Light Horse Regiment in 3024, replacing Nathan Armstrong, becoming at 41 years old in 3025 the youngest of the Eridani Light Horse's three regimental commanders then in office.
Soon after his promotion, he was considered a capable officer, who while rather quiet, could make bold and controversial decisions. In a unit known for its respect for tradition, Fairchild was a notable proponent for change and reform.
As of 3025 Fairchild was a close friend of the Light Horse' Federated Suns liaison officer Major Robert Green-Davion, who he considered an excellent officer, despite divergent views about the matter amongst Eridani personnel.[2]
