History[edit]

Light Support Lance[edit]

A third generation member of the 21st Centauri Lancers, Douglas took great pride in her heritage, seeing herself as a modern day Arthurian knight. Holding herself to the highest moral standards, she did not hesitate to discipline her subordinates who stepped out of line, though she showed her softer side to the civilians she was charged to protect. This moral code resulted in her refusing to fight in urban environments, or in other heavily populated areas, which had caused her to be reprimanded by more aggressive commanders.

As of 3132, Douglas was a member of Light Support Lance, under the command of Captain Chak Rasbid.[3] While Rasbid used this Lance as his Command Lance, as he also commanded the Company which it formed part of, Douglas often took command of it on Rasbid behalf with Thos Cardella acting as her XO.[2]

Battle of Towne[edit]

With the Light Support Lance, the then Lieutenant Douglas participated in the August 3133 Battle of Towne, when Landgrave Jasek Kelswa-Steiner's Stormhammers attempted to seize Towne's working HPG in the city of Port Howard. Hired by the planetary government, Douglas and her Light Support Lance were garrisoning the city in the weeks before the Stormhammers attacked, and she helped defend the city together with Chak Rasbid and Thos Cardella.[2][4]

Due to Rasbid being a nervous wreck, Douglas was ordered to recon the approach of Stormhammers as they entered Port Howard, with the assistance of jamming. While Douglas disliked this order, falling into her nervous habit of scratching her arm, she complied with it.[4] Once Douglas reached the HPG however, the Stormhammers under Leutnant Ken Roos who had held it retreated, due to an internal dispute with their commander Kommandant Tamara Duke.[5] Following the ejection of the Stormhammers from the HPG compound, Douglas also assisted Knight-Errant Kristoff Erbe to drive them off Towne, during the three further days of battle which followed.[2]

Twenty-First Centauri Peregrine Lancers[edit]

Once Douglas and her Lance were relived by Lancer reinforcements, which also came under the command of Captain Chak Rasbid, Rasbid decided to reward Douglas' performance with a promotion to Captain and command of an independent operations Company called the Twenty-First Centauri Peregrine Lancers.

Reinforced in her hatred of urban combat by the Battle of Towne, Douglas built her roving unit to have an ironclad drive to protect the innocent, recruiting only the most moral troops from within the Lancers. Following the Fortress Wall being erected around the core of the Republic of the Sphere in 3135, Douglas' Peregrine Lancers became famous for offering discounted rates to embattled planetary governments within the former Republic, to assist them against pirates and other bandits. While these near pro bono contracts would have been unsustainable for most small units, the Peregrine Lancers were subsidized in this endeavor by the Twenty-First Centauri Lancers as a whole on the basis it helped burnish their upstanding reputation.[2]

Lyran Contract[edit]

Following the Twenty-First Centauri Lancers taking up a long-term contract with the Lyran Commonwealth, Douglas' residual bad feelings in relation to the conduct of the Stormhammers on Towne, resulting in her keeping the Peregrine Lancers in former Republic space. During this period, she led the Peregrine Lancers in engagements such as defeating a pirate raid on Deneb Kaitos in 3136, and evacuating Alkalurops' government in 3143 as they escaped from Clan Jade Falcon. This tempo of operations however proved too much, and forced the Peregrine Lancers to take extended periods of rest and refit between missions, despite continued news of Jade Falcon atrocities driving Douglas to despair.[2]

Tamar Pact[edit]

In 3151, when the Twenty-First Centauri Lancers' Lyran contract lapsed, Douglas rejoined the main body of the Regiment on Galatea. Lobbying for the unit to head to the undefended Hinterlands, Douglas was rewarded with a contract with Governor-General Sarah Regis of the Tamar Pact, who sent the Peregrine Lancers to clear out the pirate colony of Almotacen. Succeeding in this task after only a few months, Douglas also arranged with local politicians to establish a Mercenary Hiring Hall on the world, which became a hub for small scale mercenary contracts through out the Hinterlands. Under the strict moral supervision of Douglas, the Peregrine Lancers provided law and order on Almotacen with half their force, while using the other half to take contracts off-world.

By this stage of her career, Douglas' influence in the Twenty-First Centauri Lancers was far greater than her stagnant rank and her reinforced Company command would have usually implied, with a rotation with the Peregrine Lancers being highly prestigious and a mark of likely future promotion within the Regiment.[2]

BattleMech[edit]

Douglas was known to have piloted a Mongoose II BattleMech, serial number CS108-42M. A Com Guard 'Mech which was reduced to scrap on Galatia during the Word of Blake Jihad, it was subsequently rebuilt from parts, and pressed back into service.[1][4]

Notes[edit]

  • In the short story For Loyalty or Money, Douglas is referred to as a man, but as a woman in the Unit Digest: Twenty-First Centauri Peregrine Lancers and the MechWarrior: Dark Age - Dossiers and Pilot Cards. For the purposes of this article, it has been assumed For Loyalty or Money was in error.
  • Unit Digest: Twenty-First Centauri Peregrine Lancers indicates Rosin Douglas commanded her Light Support Lance during the Battle of Towne, with Chak Rasbid arriving later with reinforcements belonging to the Company it was a part of, whereas For Loyalty or Money and Rosin Douglas' Dossier in MechWarrior: Dark Age - Death from Above Dossiers indicate Rasbid led the Light Support Lance on Towne. For the purposes of this article, as For Loyalty or Money gives the far more detailed account of Rasbid's involvement in the battle, it has been assumed to be correct.
